Tank is easy to kill.

Preset your route so you don't get into a dead end.

Keep your distance. On every difficulty except for expert the tank will knock you back when it hits you. This will temporarily stun you and could be the end of you if you get knocked into a corner.

Be aware of your surroundings. Getting knocked off a cliff or high building is instant KO. Cars, dumpsters, and other physics objects can incap you instantly if the tank hits you with them.

Dodge rocks. If you don't know how then put an object between you and the rock throw. Keep in mind that rocks have small collisions so they fit through small cracks and have explosive damage which will hit you if you're to close to the rock's detonation. Tanks accuracy will increase with difficulty so dodging changes as you change diifficulty.

Focus headshots. They do the most damage and more damage can mean a quicker kill.

Damage slows him down except for fire which speeds him up.

Keep in mind that lighting the tank on fire does not damage it except for the fire left on the ground. Instead it starts a burn out timer which kills the tank after a set amount of time even if the tank walks into water. This time varies on difficulty. You can however also kill the tank by dropping its health with bullets. When either the health reaches 0 or the burn out timer reaches 0 is when the tank dies.

Keep in mind the minigun does high aggro to the tank and the tank will attack whoever has mounted it. This can be used to distract the tank and allow your team to help incapped people or save a cornered teammate. Remember to track the tanks position so you can get away from the minigun when he gets close.

For easy: Autoshotgun - Space where you can run backwards without running into something - get 4 - 6 feet away from tank and focus fire on head while backing away. If you get to far then do taps on your backwards movement key to keep within the 4 - 6 feet mark.

For normal: Same strategy but tank will have more health.

For Advanced: Similar strategy but keep your distance unless if the tank is climbing on top of something. When he almost reaches the peak of his climb then fall back until you get another shot. Propane and oxygen tank explosions can do a stun knockback on the tank which can allow you to increase distance, strategically move, or knock him off a cliffside or building.

For Expert: Best strategy is to throw a molotov in his path lighting him on fire. This will start a 40 second burn out timer but will increase his speed. You can slow him down with gunfire to keep him from catching you. Structures that the tank has to climb can slow the tank down but be careful not to get hit as one hit is incap.

If you are a rookie then you can light the tank and just run until he burns out. 50+ hp is recommended to maintain a speed at which you can keep your distance. If a teammate goes down and is being attacked then it is best to distance yourself as gunfire does nothing to the burn out timer and you are only narrowing the distance between yourself and the tank.

Another strategy is to bait the tank out in front of the minigun and then mount it. The tank will pick up a rock and attempt to throw it at the minigun operator so the operator should prepare for an incoming rock. The minigun can shred incoming rocks if you have the accuracy to hit it but don't bite off more than you can chew. It is recommended for rookies to dismount the minigun when the tank comes within 15 feet as rocks become harder to hit the closer the tank is to you.

Many more strategies exist including learning the tank's AI patterns but this should be enough to get you started. Remember to keep fire away from minigun. You may not be able to access it if you need to rescue a teammate which could result in a teammate's death.

good luck.

Actually headshots dont work on tanks. He takes the same amount of damage regardless if you shoot him in the head, chest or wherever else.

Actually what premium says is true.. oddly enough.. After testing I confirmed consistant damage on all hitbox areas. You learn something every day.

Considering Valve's track record, I don't think we'll be getting a third game any time soon...

Best strategy is to throw a molly in his path? Hm sounds well and when there comes a horde, it becomes real surviving mess. Some of your recommendations are not correct, and mostly a new player can die when he burns the tank, or using minigun is never a good choice, as I hope the new player doesnt know to avoid the rocks so well.

Anyone else want to chime in and say something pointless?
Shogesky Nov 29, 2016 @ 12:00am
You're suppose to melee attack.

From when are advices to the others pointless? Nothing posted here is pointless, as far as I know, the opinions of other people are not pointless and are necessary in steam forums.

Advice? What advice? He said something completely pointless just to be "that smart guy".

You gave advice however 1. I wasn't talking to you. and 2. Your thinking is so linear that I can only assume you have no experience on the matter.

For instance.. "What if a horde comes"... A rookie team going against a tank on expert with a horribly timed horde is going to result in their death either way.. Yes the tank goes faster when the burn flag is triggered however it isn't that much faster than if he wasn't.. The balance is can they kill it within 40 seconds or would it be better off to burn it and run.

And the minigun part.. They won't be an expert at it so they shouldn't practice to get better.. Nope just avoid a valuable resource cause they might fail acouple times. Good plan.

See? I can be a sarcastic prick too. Funny how that works.
