Half-Life: Opposing Force

Half-Life: Opposing Force

Why did Gearbox never make a sequel?
Why didn't Gearbox ever make a sequel to Opposing Force? They could have made an expansion or a standalone add-on to Half-Life 2 which focused on Shephard again because Valve would never bring him back as he was created by Gearbox to begin with.

It's such a shame because it would have been great to be Shephard in the HL2 timeline.

HL2 is horrible. It's more of a puzzle game than FPS to begin with. So it wouldn't come off good.
OF was more combat-oriented than the other HL games so there's no reason why a hypothetical OF2 wouldn't be.

If Gearbox is gonna make OPFOR2 then it has to stick in the timeline, otherwise ratings are going to go down because of today's gaming community and the lack of "MUH FANFICS!!!"
Well of course it would fit in the HL2 timeline and what fanfics? Wouldn't bringing Adrian back be enough to make most fans happy?

Most gamers probably forgot about him anyways. How would it fit the storyline then? Where would Shephard come in?
The events of OpFor 2 wouldn't necessarily have to take place at the same time as HL2. Shephard only got to see a glimpse of Gordon back in OpFor. All Gearbox has to do is have the two never meet each other.

Gman could have gotten Shephard out of stasis and used him for a job different from Gordon's. It's really not that difficult to make his story fit in the HL2 timeline.
Valve owns all the relevant rights to develop anything under the Half-Life ip. Gearbox no longer has the license.

Also, Gabe Newell himself has said that Shepard will be returning in future games

He also said that there would be a trilogy of HL2 episodes.

Wow, someone who actually agrees with me that HL2 is extremely underwhelming and overrated.

Really? So, that means he's cannon. Could you please provide a source?

You can look up what he says, i can't bother doing it myself. But the wiki says that Opposing Force is canon, unless stated otherwise.

To me Adrian Shephard is more badass than Alyx or Barney could ever hope to be.

Well to be fair he did accomplish far more than Alyx or Barney.
