BeatHazardPref.txt - Guide and command list.
Hi all!

Version 1.7 will support a preference file. You can use this to create custom settings for Beat Hazard.

You need to create a text file called BeatHazardPref.txt

(Note: Be careful you don't end up with a file called BeatHazardPref.txt.txt, this might happen if windows is set to hide file extensions - If in doubt, right click on it and look at the properties)

The file needs to be in your 'AppData\Beat Hazard' folder. The position of this folder is different depending on which version of windows you're using.

For Linux it's here:
/home/[YOUR NAME]/.local/share/BeatHazard_Linux2/

For Windows 7 it's here:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Beat Hazard

XP path to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application data\Beat Hazard

For Vista
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Beat Hazard

To find the correct folder, search for BeatHazardRez.sav on your computer. Put the file there.

Edit: If you can find the folder, you might need to turn off the 'hide system folders' option.

Example File:
=============
CustomRez 0 800 600;
NoRSS;
ConstVolume;
end;

(note you need a ';' at the end of each line)

Commands Explained:
===================
CustomRez [Windowed] [width] [height];
This allows you to set any rez. Windowed (1=window, 0=fullscreen). Then an integer for width and height.

NoRSS;
This turns off the News Feed display at the bottom of the screen.

ConstVolume;
This makes the volume of the music constant. This will not affect gameplay in anyway. (E.g. the Vol pickups still alter the visual feedback etc.)

oldMouseMode;
For player having issues with mouse movement

noWarningSound;
Disables boss warning siren

ThanksButNoThanks;
Removes 'Thanks for buying' quit screen

ResetMyRankToZero_NoReally;
*WARNING* This will reset your rank to zero on load up. You need to play a track so the game saves and this becomes permanent. You will also need to remove the command once you've done this otherwise your rank will be reset every time you load the game.
This will not reset your leaderboard score or any other stats.

ResetMySongSaves_NoReally;
*WARNING* This will reset all the scores on your songs. You need to play a track so the game saves and this becomes permanent. You will also need to remove the command once you've done this otherwise your scores will be reset every time you load the game.
This will not reset your leaderboard scores or any other stats.

AltMouseAiming;
This will cause the game to use an alternative mouse aiming system. The mouse is used to rotate the ship and the cross hair stays at a fixed distance from the ship.

AltMouseAimingSensitivity 1.0;
This will alter how sensitive the alt mouse aiming is. Use any floating point number. e.g. 1.0 = no change, 2.0 = twice as sensitive, 0.5 = half as sensitive.

NewSaveGame;
*WARNING* This will create a new save game. It will overwrite your previous save and all progress will be lost. You will also need to remove the command once you've done this otherwise your game will be reset every time you load.

PhotonCol 1.0 0.0 0.0;
This command will change the RGB values for the photon colour. Enter any number between 0.0 and 1.0 for each RGB value.

Vanilla;
Play without the DLC enabled.

WriteDebug;
Write a file called DebugMsg.txt to the folder

end;
End of file

------------
I'll add more commands in future versions if needed. I'll keep this first page up to date too.
Note, this is pretty crappy parser, so comments aren't supported. You will need to delete the commands you don't want.

Cheers,
Steve

HI there

thanks for the comands. some are realy usefull. though could i ask if it was posable for some of the commands to be added to the options rather than haveing to use the comands?

the two i mean are
NoWarningsound and ThanksButNoThanks.

also would it be posable to add an option in the menu where when you select the game to pick random tune it dose not pick any of the built in tunes?

thanks for listening/reading
Could be nice to allow ppl to remap their keys. I'm using an AZERTY keyboard so...

You can in the options screen

Hey. If it's possible, can you add the ability to manually specify the location of your music? For whatever reason, when I select a directory to index, the game enters parent directories as well and starts indexing other stuff like audiobooks.

*edit: Parent directories at least two levels up as well, apparently. This is on Linux, by the way.

Hehe, this is exactly one of the things I was just looking for! Good that you made it sticky! Thanks for work & info!

PLUS
please urgently add a way to specify manually music in such a file !!!

The ingame way to do it is awful and makes me avoid this game.

Thank you for your interest!
(Using Linux here)
Is there any chance some of these commands could be available as options in the Android version? ConstVolume and ThanksButNoThanks were the first two commands I enabled, and not having these options on the mobile version was a little disappointing for me.
I was hoping to use the CustomRez line to play 720p fullscreen on my 1080p monitor, but it don't work... I know I've got my file i the right place because the ThanksButNoThanks one works.

This is on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit btw
Any chance of adding a command for windowed noborder?

it works nice
Is there a command to prevent the game automatically pausing itself when alt-tabbed out? I would love to use this games visualizer on my second monitor while I browse the web.

If I may satisfy my curiosity, why play at 720p on a 1080p monitor? (Performance reasons?)

Yep. I was hoping to achieve a solid 60fps.

No offense, but it sounds like you have a weak PC if it can't run at 1080p 60fps. Though, I realize you're running on Linux and it's a possibility that this game isn't optimized that well for Linux.
