Firstly, please be aware that this DLC does not include new perks or new enemy types.
The Shadow Operations DLC adds the ability to use and create custom ships. You can carry on playing the way you did before with your preferred choice of perks and equipment. The ships you currently own can still be used as normal.
The new ships are completely optional. The DLC comes with some custom ships, each have their own Shadow Missions which require certain criteria to be met - for example "completing 5 tracks on Insane Difficulty". The mission criteria and difficulty varies from each one.
Each ship included in the DLC is different and will have certain features such as speed, size, firepower etc. You are also able to download user created ships from the Steam Workshop where there are thousands of designs to choose from.
Completing a mission will grant you Shadow Stars which will help you gain higher Shadow Ranks. A higher Shadow Rank will give you access to new and more powerful ships.
Your songs and scores should also remain, but keep in mind that each new ship has its own online leaderboards.
I hope this helps,
~ LucK
Thanks much, I haven't played for a while now and I was a bit confused about the new DLC as a result. This gives me all I needed to know. Much appreciated! ^^
