Steam Disconnects
I'm having a lot of problems with Steam constantly disconnecting, forcing me to lose connection to my co-op partner.

Steam always has a lot of random disconnects for me - it'll disconnect for a minute, then reconnect, and might happen once, or it might happen a dozen times in an hour. I want to continue to be able to play co-op when this happens.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is their a solution?

Don't know about lately but this was happening to me over the past few days & I think it was do to updates. So you may wanna look around for a update or patch history for steam & or BL2.

this sounds more like the ports getting blocked

I've always gotten these types of 'Steam offline for a few minutes' things, so it's not something new. My partner who plays off the same router has the same issue, as do most of the friends I chat with on a constant basis through steam.

im awesome at copy and paste so try this:

If you can’t connect to your friends for Co-op, try enabling DMZ mode on your router with firewall turned and all ports for Borderlands 2 forwarded. You need to forward TCP: 7777,7778, 28900, 28902,28910 and UDP: 7777,7778, 27900, 28902.

Your network must be configured to allow Steam access to the following ports (in order from highest to lowest priority for QoS users):

Steam Client
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
UDP 4380

It has to do with Steam, not ports.
Your connection to coop depends on Steam, if Steam disconnects then you drop out of said game.

thats all there is to it.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I needed to know; if it was an inevitable annoyance or something that could be fixed.

Pretty much nope.

Any Game that relies on Steam for a connection to other players, L4D for example, if Steam disconnects you go with it.

When this happens it can be for 2 reasons, 1 mainly being Steam is having some hiccups which i mentioned above. And 2, your connection is acting up.

But if you disconnect and your Friends list is offline its usually Steam. if its a connection issue on your end the friends list normally doesnt go offline instantly.

It's strange that I've never had the problem with L4D2. I figured it just allowed for momentary disconnects where as Borderlands does not.

@ Anjasa, now that you are talking about disconnects, I had quite a few this and last week. Never had so much before, must be on Steams end. I am behind no Router and never had these problems before. Weird.

This problem is getting really annoying. Its fine to use steam for match making but... this is a standard client-server game. Steam disconnects SHOULD NOT drop people from co-op games.

I assume this was done on purpose... but it was a stupid decision. I hope steam/gearbox fixes this problem. (and no, the steam servers staying online is NOT an acceptable solution)

Valve needs to up their damn game. This has been happening way too frequently lately. usually on Tuesday nights there an hour of people dropping on and offline over and over. Tonight it's especially annoying, trying to farm Terramorphous with 3 of my buddies and everyone keeps getting dropped, or one person gets dropped and then it locks us all out of each others games. Fix your damn servers Valve, thanks.

tuesday nights might be their maintenance period, and tonights might also be because the DLC comes out tomorrow .-.

I've noticed these hiccups tonight as well. It has happened a couple of times so far but both were within about 5 mins of each other at 8:30pm pst. I doubt it's router or connection related considering this hardly ever happens to me. Steam must be having some issues on their end.

I think it is the ports tho, i have 2 other people playing off wifi connection at home, and when i try to join them my steam disconnects and i get kicked after a 'longer-than-usual' loading screen.... it sometimes works and i can play, but its been doing this alot lately, and the other 2 people playing dont get disconnected at all.
