why my friends cant join my game?

I hate to be one of those idiots, but all I have to say is that I have the exact same issue. I can join random public games and so can my friend, but we can't join each other. Even if one of us joins a public game and invites the other, then the other one can't join that server. It's really frustrating.

It's a port problem, as I don't know what ports the game used (I looked and tried Borderlands 1 ports but they didn't work) I had to DMZ my computer's IP through my modem and router to allow me to join my friends.

Would you mind explaining this to someone who is less capable with networking?

Most if not all routers and modems have a DMZ mode. Which basically means all ports are open. Google your router/modem find the address you need (mine are 172.16.0.1 and 192.168.2.1) once there open your Command Prompt (type cmd into your start bar, if on W7) and type ipconfig, it'll give you a bunch of numbers but you're looking for the IPv4 Address.

Once you have that, set your router to DMZ that address and then you should be able connect to others.
