Sharing PC characters with Mac version
I normally game on desktop PC, but I'm taking my Mac laptop on a work trip and would like to sync up my characters.

I just launched BL2 on my Mac and it works fine, but it doesn't seem to sync up with the Steamcloud saves or... whatever? I guess I expected my saves to work across both Windows and Mac.

Any tips on getting my PC games on to my Mac? Is there a setting to sync them or can I copy files?

If I get my PC saves on to my Mac and them level them, can I copy them back to the PC?

There is a way but it is a manual copying of the files from one platform to the other platform. I do this all the time between the PC and MAC.

In your case, you need a USB stick formatted for FAT32 so it can read and write in both the MAC OSX world and the PC Windows world. On the PC, the Borderlands 2 saves are in the Windows Explorer path of My Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\SaveData. You need to eitehr copy the entire Folder Contents for SaveData onto the USB stick or copy just the Folder within the SaveData folder that has the character you are interested in moving between platforms.

On the MAC OSX computer (laptop), open up a Finder window and select the USB drive with the folder you copied from the PC (the SaveData folder). Use the Command N key combination to open up another Finder window. In this second Finder window, hold down the ALT key and mouse click on the Go Drop Down dialog menu. With the ALT key held down, you will see a new selection called Library. Select Library and you will be presented with alot of system file folders. Double Click on the folder named Application Support. Double Click on Borderlands 2. Double Click on WillowGame. You will now see the SaveData folder (which is the same as the one on the PC with the saved games and characters).

Now mouse click into the Finder window with the USB stick SavedData folder and files. Right Click the SaveData folder and copy. Mouse Click into the Finder window with the Borderlands 2 SaveData folder and Right Click and paste the entire folder into this window. Say "Yes" to replace all.

Start up Borderlands 2 on the MAC and you should have all your saved games and characters on the MAC.

You need to reverse the process for going back to the PC with the latest Saved Game sync information.

So there's no actual file altering? Then I'm puzzled why the Steam cloud wouldn't work. I don't personally use Mac, just an interested party.

I am not an expert on Steam Cloud and although it syncs, I have had issues where the supposedly sync'd files were not in sync. The only way I have found to trick Steam Cloud is to delete or alter some of the folders in SaveGame folder. Steam will see that the two don't match and asks you if you want to pull down the Steam folder/files or upload from your PC the folder/files. This method too is not 100%.

Good luck with Steam Cloud...

I think it doesn't sync via steam cloud because the pc and mac games are not guaranteed to be in sync version wise. (witness the recent past when the two couldn't play together.)
Under those circumstances it might be tricky to guarantee the cross platform saves would work well.
