Take it off and don't even think twice about it.
I haven't had a chance to test it out though since I just switched to an AMD 290x, but its probably a game error, not a GPU error.
Can someone confirm?

You're one of the lucky few!
:-)
We are on the same boat. I am experiencing huge FPS drops with high level Physx too. I've 780ti @ 1240/1900 + 2600K @ 5ghz.
Video or it didn't happen.
Honestly, I'd rather PhysX be CPU based, as it is in game engines (such as UE4) that way its both universal and optimized for all parties (AMD included).

check what physx you have installed and try another version. in the last 1.5 years out of 4 different, one (forgot which) was horrible so, its a bit of roullette.
BL2 isn't the only game that is affected, try running metro 2033 or last light benches, have physx set to high and watch the same thing happen.
sorry methinks people expect too much (or too little in terms of frame rate drops). had a 570 with 550ti as physx and if i stood there taking a lot of fire, esp from explosive weapons, i would be watching a slideshow. haven't seen below 30 fps since upgrading to a 780 and same physx card. not great but still playable until i get undercover in game play as sal, only character i've played.
edit:typos
I've been playing it with a Phenom 955 and a GTX460 1Gb with PhyX on medium and had no noticable problems.
It's such a shame because after you've seen the game with physx, with it off just looks so barren. Even the blood, which looks odd at first but to me matches the comic book aesthetic really goes amiss.
And I wish the people who say they run the game with physx "perfectly" would upload a 60fps video, because the fact it apparently works fine for some people but not for others, often with the exact same or worse hardware just boggles the mind.
I have a GTX 770 overclocked that should run smoothly borderlands as it do in all other games that i have... sad this function really doesn't work.
turn off or low pshyx so u can play. =((
Any plan to devs of borderlands or nvidia fix it? ( whoever created the problem )
they won't... they are lying. :)
you aren't correct saying the 780ti is horrible @physX. just download the latest version of fluidmark:
http://www.geeks3d.com/20130308/fluidmark-1-5-1-physx-benchmark-fluid-sph-simulation-opengl-download/
and run it on both the 780ti and the 750ti. even though maxell has a ~1.5x adavantage over kepler for cuda applications, such as physX, there is no way 640 maxwell cores is beating 2880 keplar cores in anything but power consumption.
a 680 ftw and it ran lke crap. Now I have a 780ti and it runs good again.
Skyrim also ran like crap with my old 680 ftw.
