Here the opinion of a newbee player after trying to learn this game after 7 hrs.
For info, look like, I just learned since time increased 7 to 8 hrs, time you searching or writing in steam forum topic count as played this game.

Return to the topic, WOW, I feel like idiot with this game.

I mean, normally in FPS game, some games, i'm excellent (of course, need practice to be able too), some i'm average. etc.

But with this game, I was knowing i'm a newbee in a new style of playing and I was not expecting too much being a beginner. But this game is really not helping his new player to stay. I explain.

First day I decide to try this game, training session of the game, done all the instruction. Even go to the like sandbox server to try the game without really playing since I begin. Found nothing to learn there.

Then try the first game since I go true the TRAINING session. What a mess, got like 1 kill for 20-40 death ration, I was not knowing what I'm doing or what each monster can do, what I must do. Why some people not happy, complaining, etc..

Second day, try to find a place to learn this game, found many youtube video to show monster, what they do.

Try again online, again, massacre, but at least, people was not complaining too much about my bad score on this server. Until I wanted to try to learn, go to spectacle to learn from good one. Bang, got kicked after only few minutes. Look like no spectacle allowed to allow newbee to learn to play.

Today, try again, try to kill, try to destroy, try to defend, try to not get kill, (look like mostly each time I'm in the monster team, people was not happy by my skill or something. (Since english is not my first tongue, I can read and write english, I can listen english radio, movie, tv, but with this game, I have really hard time to understand so low quality sound. With people speaking with accent in mic in this game. Result, then, most of the time, I don't hear order (only way for me, checking frequently the map to try to find a red circle if there one) Exception made some time, I heared my nickname.

Discouraged, I quit the current game thinking to trash this game and I'm still thinking about it until I took a look in this forum and saw this topic. (this game losing players). At least, look like i'm not alone.

Now, my opinions ?

Maybe i'm wrong, but I think people, was expecting too much from a newbee like me for there team ?

Maybe I'm wrong, but now I think people in monster team was not happy because I was wasting monster points ?

Just to precise, the 3 times I tryed to play, I joined server with 18-24 players (mentionning newbee accepted ) in hope there will be more newbee like me. And there are not alot populated server with this FPS.

Then, I agree with some comment in this topic (this game losing players). Look like this game is too competive (to my taste ) for newbee. I don't care to not have a good score, I know I'm newbee and it's normal in the begining. But to feel i'm useless from your team and to feel be the reason your team loose. This is game breaker in the fun in my taste.

Good luck, with your game guys and have fun. But here, at least I think I will take at least a break if I do a new try with this game before trash it and confirm I wasted my money.

This was my newbee opinion. ^.^

Also, what frame rates are you getting? That IMO can make or break the game.

this is not an FPS game.

Valid concerns, especially considering language barrier.

If you really like the game, I must say that it gets a lot better after about 40 hours of play, where you get the basics down.

It takes a keen mind to understand and learn the game mechanics. If you like the game, the rest shall follow. Otherwise, this won't be the game for you.

Your problem? You probally joined aliens?

Join marine, learn it first. Then play aliens. This game is more indepth then any game.

People say this and that, but your wall of text only shows your 'training' offline.

Games on rookie servers last 60 mins on occasion. You tell me that you cant get at least 3 kills early game as marine? That means you are not paying attention.

This means:

- Single player is NOT multiplayer
- Who would play predictable as bots?
- Who would learn an MP game in relation to gameplay other then non commanding gameplay vs bots or sandbox?

The reason people whine - is that this is one of the most indepth FPS/RTS you will ever see.

Don't take it personal. A lot of people ♥♥♥♥♥ in this game. I usually laugh at it since we're all playing a bloody PC game with strangers just to pass the time. Winning in this is about as important as watching the latest Digimon episode.

My score depends on the team, the commander and the opposing team. Sometimes I'm at 20-3, other times it's 15-15, sometimes it's even 7-20. When you realise that Kills-Deaths means relatively little, and it's only about improving yourself as person whilst having fun; that's when the game actually becomes addictive.

And just for reference I have over 100 hours in NS2 alone.

Skandis this game requires a certain intelligence unlike watching a digimon episode. Also competetive games are more than just passing time. In fact a lot of gamers earn their money playing competetive games. Its like football but a lot more intelligent.

"a lot" is not really applicable here. Let's be honest, the vast majority of gamers are playing games as a hobby.
ChrisPlaysLinux 5 Paź, 2013 - 16:12
gamers that earn money playing games not gamers in general. -.-

If you meant "gamers earning money playing games," surely you meant "all of them" and not "a lot" of them, by their very definition?

you haver gamers that earn money but dont paly competetive games like making minecraft videos on youtube... this is getting boring now -,-

I honestly doubt the 14 year olds that cream themselves over how poor people perform on rookie servers are the same people that get four digit salaries from playing pc games.

No, this game doesn't require intelligence in any sense. It requires root memorisation and reflexes. Studying calculus requires intelligence. Playing a new strategy game on the fly requires intelligence. Heck, my job requires intelligence. Repeating the same <10 maps with <10 "classes" for several hundred hours does not require intelligence.

If you're going to go with the argument "Oh, but you could make 15 hour long tactical plans", then same could be said with watching Digimon. You could spend a week translating it from cantonese and then another week comparing it with Kant's philosophy and Shakesphere's writing.

Those people also have software costs, and need to have a top of the line PC.

It does require intelligence in formulating on the fly plans that win games. That's why rookie games tend to go so long. They don't know the maps, classes or time frames to build the foundation for quick on the fly strategy changes. Unlike other games where the maps are largely linear and often can be won with sheer brute force, NS2 allows at least the Aliens to do backdoor stealth attacks that can and do win games. Knowing when it do that, how to do that and where to do that is intelligence. If it wasn't, anyone could pull that off. An alien team with a highly intelligent strategist player who can think on their feet can often turn the game around.

I've done it myself. Had my team trade an entire hive so we could destroy the main Marine base leaving them with just a secondary with no protolab, no arms lab and no robo factory and just 1 IP. Sure we lost a hive but we then rolled right into their secondary base and won the game. Their exos were too far away to do anything (this was before you could beacon exos). Often Alien teams will lose a game because they've committed too much to defending and don't see or take the opportunities to flank Marine bases. It takes intelligence to know when to recommit forces and where and when it's worth trading assets.
