on Windows x64, can only run x86. Wouldn't surprise me if x86 was only available on linux.

what is x64? never heard of the architecturer before! do you mean x86 64 bits?

Huh? Maybe I do, everyone I've met has written 64-bit software with the x64 naming convention.

which is wrong. there is no such architecture as x64

Do you want to solve your problem or get any info according to your question?
Or do you just come here to troll other people calling things wrong with a Linux-elitist-smartass behavior?

Cant believe that you REALLY did not understand what he meant with x64...
Even when it was wrong your answer was just elitist- trolling.

And for your information:
For my knowledge there is no 64bit version of NS2 on any platform.

i see the steam client supports 64 bit games even though the client is 32 bit.. so ns2 why no 64 bit client?

When people are talking
-> amd64 == 64 bit == x86-64 == x64

And don't try to be a smartass, there are other 32 bit and 64 bit architectures too, so your original question is wrong (ambigious) too.

Someone as completely clueless as yourself should be reading and learning, not trying to "correct" other people that harbor knowledge far superior to your own on the subject.

The steam client don't have to be x86_64 bit in order to run x86_64 bit game.
Example :

I have ut2004 in my library which runs as x86_64 bit and the steam overlay works fine.

There separate processes.

With regards the "x64 " misunderstanding, Blame windows lingo.
Seem to remember "x64" denoting sparc proc's though way back in the day which is why it's writen x86_64. But not sure on that, My memory ain't what it used to be. ;)

Pete.

yeah steam can run 64 bit apps since recently even if steam itself is 32 bit. I am wondering why ns2 doesnt have a 64 bit client as it would run faster..

Don't mean to de-rail the thread here: why do you think a 64-bit version would be "faster" ?
