Ubuntu linux, INCREDIBLE loading times

heya,- bought this yesterday and i've tried to play it twice but it's taking forever to load up. Says loading textures which takes ages and then moves on to loading cache. Faaar too long. Is this a bug or expected? surely I should be zapping bad guys within 30 seconds or so?

the first time you play it takes some time to optimize

unfortunately i have same situation. game is loading increadible slow and then nothing happen, only black screen with mouse pointer.
everything in menu screen is ok, i can change all settings and so on... but i can't play.
my system is fedora 18, i'm using proprietary driver from nvidia.
i would like also admit that to run the game i had to undefine system variable XMODIFIERS.

First time loading a level can take several minutes (about 1-3 minutes depending on cpu and hdd), after that first time optimization you should indeed zapping poor aliens and biting bad marines within 30 seconds or so.

Ok woks slow but works. The game engine sill need optimization.

This is still an issue for me - has there been no optimisation? The loading time was something to behold.

I have since bought an Nvidia card and this is fixed for me. Seems to be an issue with NS2 and AMD catalyst.
