Unable to load game again with OpenGL
The game loaded on the intial installation with the default DX9 setting. I made the mistake of switching to OpenGL. Now I can't open the game again as the spark and GLSL compiler crashes everytime. How can I set it back to the default graphic setting. I'm on Windows 7 and running on an integrated Intel HD graphics 3000.

%appdata%\Natural Selection 2 .

Once in there, open up the "System_options".xml file in notepad or your otherwise preferred text editor. find the <device> string, change it to "D3D9" or "D3D11". 9 in your case since you're on an integrated card. It probably won't run anyway, just so you know. That's really not a card meant for gaming.

I wasn't able to find the file. I've tried searching through the Steam files but no luck. Also, I don't have any folders named "appdata". The closest match was the folder below, but no luck in finding the "system_options" nor a .xml file

X:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Natural Selection 2

No if you just type literally, %APPDATA% in your explorer address bar it'll expand to something in your user folder. Then go to the "Natural Selection 2" folder, and log.txt should be in there. Try to run the game, and then post your log.txt via pastebin.com

He can edit it manually though, just sending the log.txt won't do you guys any good. Especially since we know the issue here is he's using an intel 3000 chipset which I don't think supports anything past opengl3, and even then it's spotty at best.

I didn't explain how to get to %appdata% correctly.

You're on windows 7, to get there, hold down the windows key, and press R. in the run prompt that pops up, type in %appdata% and hit enter. It should also redirect you to the "roaming" section of %appdata%. Then look for a "Natural Selection 2" folder , and perform the steps in my first response.

If you feel you're up to it, you can also get a log.txt file in the same folder as system_options.xml . Maybe steve here can use it for something i'm unaware of. Not really right for me to assume in regards to other people's work.

Same issue, same solution worked sure, but it not a good sign when the OpenGl path is that buggy.
(Though right now I can not play even on the D3D paths, as the performance is super instable, hoping from 10 to 100 fps and back again. )

Number one rule of Graphics Chips; if it's not ATI or Nvidia, it's likely crap.
Especially if it's an intel intergrated chip.

In my case it is AMD ;-)
