Low FPS/Performance
My PC: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz
4 GB RAM
Geforce GTS 250
Windows 7 64bit

I'm having an unplayable low framerate 90% of the time while playing, usually far below 30 fps (50 - 65 fps in main menu).

I know that my Specs are slightly below the recommended requirements according to the store page of Steam and I do not expect the game to run with high framerate with all settings to the max.

My problem is that my framerate stays like that, even with all settings set to low. Has anybody got some nice advice to increase my framerate for a left-behind rookie? I think with my system specs it should at least be possible to run it fine on lowest settings somehow.

I really want to enjoy the game but it is impossible if it runs like that.

I'd really appreciate some help here; Thanks for your attention.

Edit: This thread slowly turns out to be a good summary of tips and advices to enhance FPS/ Performance, well done.

Also the latest updates increased my FPS rate. It doesn't drop below 25 FPS and usually stays around 30 FPS on low settings.

Oh man, i was have absolutly the same PC spec, i try update my PC
I buy new GPU RADEON HD 7770 1GB, I overclock my CPU to 3,6 Ghz, I buy 4 GB RAM, but my FPS is still low. No way, Core 2 Duo E8400 is too slow, buy i5 or i7, and you need new GPU
Would think patch would have helped fix this. Guess not. The game isn't well optimized and this is typical fps for an E8400. It is very CPU dependant. I have an E8400 and it is fairly old now you know....
U can play.

Minimum = Will at least start but dont expect a joyful experience. [x] check.. ur game runs.

Recommend = The Devs think u need at least this to enjoy the game. [] nope

Now u dont even reach Recommended system requirements.

Game works as intended... learn what means minimum and recommend...

Minimum:
OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 2.6 ghz
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, ATI X800, NVidia 8600 or better
DirectX®:9.0
Hard Drive:5 GB HD space

Recommended:
OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 3.0 ghz
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, AMD 5770, NVidia GTX 450 or better
DirectX®:9.0
Hard Drive:5 GB HD space
Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection

Very funny. My Specs are better than the minimum requirements and almost as good as it is recommended right? So it should at least run fine at low settings, but, and that is the problem I explained, it does not. You obviously haven't even read what I've written. Learn to read a text before commenting it.

To all the others (Xan and BobrO), thanks for your answers and explanations. I guess I just have to wait with playing until I've got myself a better GPU and CPU/a new PC.

What resolution are you trying to run in?

Currently its set to 1280 x 800 but I've also tried lower resolutions which sadly do not result in a that much increased framerate.

"When we say minimum system requirements, the game developers usually set it to the hardware your computer must at least have in order to be able to play the game. Usually, it means that if you have a computer that meets the minimum requirements, you will be able to play the game but you won't be able to increase the quality of the graphics and the game may run slow but still playable."

>>>>>" you will be able to play the game but you won't be able to increase the quality of the graphics and the GAME MAY RUN SLOW BUT STILL PLAYABLE." <<<<<<

It does not run playable below 20 fps.

"game may run slow but still playable" could mean anything...
Slow and Playable.. means for me u can play but u get ♥♥♥♥ fps... other concider 30-60 fps slow and unplayable.
Tbh the whole 'minimum system requirements'-thing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They should just advertise the recommended settings. Why would someone even care for the minimum system requirements? I believe everyone likes their game to be at least playable...
I feel bad for you space wolf, I really do. I think the game is running slow on my computer and that it's time for me to upgrade my computer (unfortunately I can't, but thats not the point), and i'm getting a higher FPS than you are, but the game IS playable, just like they said. You can't fault them for giving you specs and having them be truthful.

Ultimately, the problem here isn't their specs, it's your computer. It's your responsibility as the customer and the owner of the computer running the game to make sure that the game runs to your standards. It is NOT the developers job to do that, its YOURS (just to clarify, the last 2 sentences of this is not directed at you space wolf, as much as it is directed at the people trashing the developers because their computers can't run the game, and i've seen a lot).
Can someone please explain me the use of 'minimum recommended settings'?

Please read what I've written: I've never blamed the devs, I know my computer is quite a bad one.

I just asked for advice if anyone knows something to increase framerate, instead of the usual "put settings on low" or "update your GPU driver". Thats all, never wanted to blame anyone for MY BAD PC.

It's most likely the CPU. the game relies heavily on cpu calculations.
For me reinstalling the game helped immensly, theres also quite a couple things you can try in this thread http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/117259/bad-performance-some-hints-and-tips
