When you spectate them and see them tracking someone through the walls, then firing off an entire pistol clip in under a second when the Skulk they were tracking leaps at them, it can be kind of a tip-off that things might be less than fair...

It really is getting more widespread and this attitude of "If you think anyone cheats, you're obviously bad and just getting mad that someone killed you" is only making it worse.
angelous Apr 2, 2013 @ 12:31am
Well, I've been playing like mad lately, and have seen a few guys with suspicious movements, but after expectating they don't seem to be doing anything bad, they just seem to be very good.

That said, there was one time where the habilities of the player worsened whilst I was spectating, but I can't prove more than that...

Yes, there are cheaters, and they will always find ways of geting through the VAC, but I think a great mayority of players aren't playing like that (though some workshop skins can be considered cheats)

No, but when their shotguns autofire, their pistols fire all 10 rounds at once, they fire at walls when skulks are behind walls, it's a pretty obvious sign they're using aimbots or they're scripting (because they have no actual skill). If you have to rely on a combat script, you shouldn't be playing games.

Servers that do not allow direct 1st person spec tend to see this more. You can still 1st person them during the wait time if the game has autobalance enabled. Hence when it becomes obvious they are cheating. No one can click their mouse 10 times instantly. And shotguns do not get fired at long range structures by regular people inbetween reloads.

Scripting is way more of a problem than direct hacks. It's pathetic that some people have to resort to basically coding what they lack the skills for.

Yeah I've seen A LOT more hackers here lately. As the game gets more popular it's going to happen. Couple that with the fact there's no anti-cheat system in place and the engine is built to be moddable from the ground up and there's bound to be issues.

Ho Boy. This one player I was "chatting with" thought it was PERFECTLY FINE to bind a script to unload 10 bullets instantly. When asked if he'd have a problem with a script for skulks to bite instantly 10 times, he had a problem with that. When asked how they were different, he went silent.

And he played Marines three times in a row. Someone's parents raised him with no real sense of moral code.

Apparently creating something that was never intended to be in the game that gives a massive advantage is "not cheating." Wonder if that guy took any offense to the bank bailouts.

That my friends, is a sign of the decay of morals people have.

Yes that's it! That more masses will be online that much more cheaters will be online as well. I am not such a bad player in NS2 and as a SteamBans Admin I can see who is cheating ingame.

If it is a Marine and insta kills all Skulks so reaching a K/D ratio of 15 within a minute. If it is a Skulk who insta kills Marines by eating their heads so also getting a K/D ratio of 15 within the 1st minute. This all tends to an aimbot.

If a Lerk pre-fires around corners and exactly aim and hit me so killing me with nearly no-spread. Well I guess a wh + aimbot there.

I really like NS2 and have got addicted into it, but as JKflipflop and I kinda explained. More players, bigger community, more cheaters, bigger cheater community. I think it is time to improve the Anti-Cheat and/or to implement a feature in-game to report those cheaters!

It is possible to open the console, but how to gain their SteamID's? I really need a complete console command list.

sv_status

Screen shot it (f12) and then you have to convert it.

See the link:
http://wiki.unknownworlds.com/index.php/Dedicated_Server#SteamID_Format

That gets you their regular steam id.

Plug it into this:
http://steamidfinder.com/

Generally use STEAM_0:X: then the converted ID. sometimes that first X is a 0 or a 1.
That will give you their Steam Profile. For some odd reason some people simply don't appear in your current player list in the Steam Overlay and don't appear in your recently played with. I find it VERY ODD that at least 70% of the people I'm trying to report simply don't appear in the overlay OR recently played with. Luckily, they can't hide from sv_status.

I'm ALL for reported cheating POS and getting them banhammered.

Thank you in advance. I didn't think sv_status was implemented into NS2 ^^

No problem. Just follow the steps and links I gave you and no suspected hacker can evade you.

Also, report disruptive troll Coms as well under "user misconduct."

Just for a heads up, a guy with the name ANIMAL MOTHER is a hacker, iv told him so countless times and he doesn't even try to dismiss the fact.
Now when ever he joins a server im on he leaves right away.

It's not random if you need to use STEAM_0:0:x or STEAM_0:1:x.

When you divide the Steam ID you get from NS2 by 2, if it ends in .5, you need to remove the .5 and use the format STEAM_0:1:x.

Otherwise it's STEAM_0:0:x.

Also, the reason people don't show up in the current/recent lists is because they aren't logged into Steam Friends when playing. Pretty sure it's like that in other Steamworks titles as well, such as TF2.

NS2 cheaters are notas bad as in Modern Warfare 3.

Was that the Steam Name or the in-game Name? Because the latter can be changed, and there are even scripts to change them during a match.

Steam Friends? How can you play a game in Steam without being logged in?
