Yea, trying to decide between this and Orion: Dino Horde myself. Apparently it's much improved over what it's score would indicate.

This game is really good, I play it all the time. Its true that it has changed a lot since its initial release and many there are people that is not quite happy with the game, but it still is an excelent game, and quite addictive :P

I'm a noob from the EU (21h playtime). Like the game a lot. Sometimes there are very few servers online with decent pings (and low enough skilllevel ;) ). The community seems to be struggling a bit, I gather, and some complain about changes in the gameplay since earlier realeases (which I don't really care about being new to the game). You can try for example http://www.twitch.tv/reddogtv/ for some in-game vids and the occasional Live-stream of matches. Find it very worth my while.

Game has stabilised for the most part. Balance is pretty good, playercount is stable and performance/loadtimes beyond the first map load is improved.

mmm doesn't look too bad from the vids and apparently has a higher player count than Orion. Was thinking about Aliens: CM but I hear at 4.99 it's still garbage too even for MP, so, staying away from that one. *sigh* so many choices.

Well this game is phenomenal if you are looking for an FPS with actual depth and skill. It's not an easy game to just jump into and play, you need to invest a little bit of time in order to reap a sense of satisfaction. You wouldn't jump into DOTA2 blind and expect to have a fun time, same applies here.

Don't even consider getting A:CM for the multiplayer, it's insulting to alien fans.

1000 hours played. The game went well until they expanded the rendering options in the 250 release. I blame this move and their resolve in using their public as testing grounds for a free weekend promotion. In less than a year they started asking for additional money in exchange for skins and decals as well as scoreboard icons.

I believe many left because they felt they were sold out. While others because the minimal system requirements increased and they got left behind. I just reinstalled to try 258 and while the performance has increased, I still feel that 249 was supreme in this regard.

The mentioning of reinforcement as getting something for free was extreme for UWE, as it ruined the game for many. The devs promote their communications, but 250 snuck up on me and it was pure... stupid. I don't like being treated like a beta tester.

Is the game good? sure, but it was better. Performance wise. I could careless about the support for operating systems or rendering options. When I bought the game a year ago; I thought I bought it completed, but the devs stole that version from me. I'm just bitter on how it was done and the possible reasons why it was done. What i've found though is that I'm silenced on how far I can reason with it, so good day.

the game itself is good enough to get u addicted to it. the problem is that the game tend to ♥♥♥♥ u off frequently with sudden drop of FPS, Lag compensate, awkward balancing, and poor optimization. these problems don't make u turn ur back on the game since the game is so fun, but it does ♥♥♥♥ u off a lot. if those problems arose in other games, i would simply delete the game. problem solved. but this game is actually very much fun that u do care about how developers are doing to fix those problems and such, and developers aren't doing a very good job since the game is produced by a really small company, and they are not like super smart coders and game designers like u see in big companies.
so overall, if u want to have some serious amount of fun, regardless of how much u'll get ♥♥♥♥ed at the game, buy the game. if u don't want to be stressed out by a game, don't get it, cuz it will drive u crazy.

Long time player here (been playing since beta, almost 500h). Unique and deep MP game.

Some highlights:
- completely asymmetrical factions
- FPS/RTS hybrid, really well done! Being comm can be a lot of fun (but also very tiring)
- walking on walls and flying about the map as an alien
- jet packs and exo-suits as marines
- the satisfaction when you finally push a worthy oppent back through a witty strategy and make progress towards victory as a team

The game has a small community with a lot of high-skill players, which makes getting into the game difficult for newcomers. However, if you can get through the initial frustration of learning the game and ask questions often, there are heaps of vets who are willing to help you out and explain things.
There is always a few servers up (EU) to join, not much to choose from when you're picky, but sufficient if you have to play at 10AM on a workday. Evenings and weekends are fine, with lots of servers to choose from. Don't let the low player count scare you away!

The game itself is as well balanced as it never was before. BEWARE: as a new player you might experience one side being grossly OP, but this is rather due to unbalanced teams, something the devs are working to fix atm, through some kind of matchmaking.

The devs themselves are awesome. Some don't like the abundance of balance changes and fundamental gameplay mechanics that have happened twice or thrice since release, but I enjoyed every build so far and don'T mind relearning some portions of the game. Content was constantly added to the game since launch (grenades, alien tunnels, webs, railguns, female marines, the list goes on) and the devs are still working on performance and net code. They are very dedicated to improving the game even one year after launch!

poor optimized, but its works pretty well at 900p resolutions :D

I have no problem with the fps, however the servers with the most players(26) tend to be laggy sometimes. Many fps games support 50-100 players / server. I would very much like to see 40 player servers in NS too, without the crazy lag of course.

Otherwise i always find servers with 20+ players here in EU. The game itself is quite fun, it worth the 10 euros i paid. If you have very bad K/D ratio then try other servers. According to my observation the veteran players with the highest skills are often stacked in the oldest servers, while new servers has more newbies.
