Never before has the NS2 community attempted something so ambitious

I really dislike the servers that dump you on a team right after loading. Usually I wait in the ready room for a minute or so to let all my textures load and when I'm put right into a game I'm stuck there at 2FPS xD

And +1 on load times and general sucky performance. The amount of my friends that don't play because they can't get a reasonable frame rate just annoys me. No.1 killer of player retention, performance.

Edit: 18 friends own the game not one plays it...

the same boat, they can do whatever they want in this game, sadly it will be no return, i'm just watching it fall.

I have 31 friends who play the game.

4 of them have over 10 hours. 5 of them have less than 6 hours with most not breaking 1 hour. 22 have entirely stopped playing.

You mean the UWE community manager posted another crowd source "announcment" like he did in every media/social network outlet he could. Except this time it's not for UWE directly but for Wasabi and co to host a tournement that all of 1% of the community participate in?

I think the replys in this thread highlight more than adequately the feelings and opinions of the posters just fine in regards to the championship crowd funding. If anything it is a very pertinent reminder of more pressing matters by how easily we all brushed it aside to talk about problems many of us are having.

Besides Hugh is more than a dev coming from the community itself and an NS fanboy none the less. He's capable of accepting player grievances from the steam community in one of the very few threads he has made here. Considering the level of activity here i'm suprised we don't see him more often.

If Devs want an e-Sport game, they first need a large active population.

This seems like putting the carriage in front of the horse. Devs should focus on performance and keeping players from leaving rather than this silly e-Sport stuff.

Starcraft 2 can run E-Sports because its active population is in the tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

DOTA 2 can run E-Sports because it has over 150,000 active players at any one time. DOTA 2 right now appears to be stealing compeitive SC2 players. Part of this is changes in Heart of the Swarm (or Heart of the Bored to some) that have made formerly compeitive SC2 players less compeitively successful. Part of it is just boredom with SC2.

Trying to do E-Sports when your active player peak rates are under 1,000 is stupid.

The division of funds and the area of benefit seems very narrow. Why I brought up the $550,000 goal is that is was announce as a way to support NS2 development. So, why would you drive support away from that... with the same reward system. Did you devs give up on the goal for NS2?

Considering the level of activity here i'm suprised we don't see him more often.

Unfortunately I have human limits... UWE doesn't have a 'community manager' and I have to restrict the amount of time I spend chatting across various media, lest I not get any of my other work done! But I am trying to make an effort to jump into the Steam forums more often :)

One of the mistakes made in announcing the NS2WC was using the same website structure as the Reinforcement Program. People have mistakenly assumed that it is Unknown Worlds asking for the money - We're not. The money is going to a group of players who are organising the NS2WC. They are asking for it - Not UWE. They are doing an amazing job and I am sad that people have linked what they are doing with the Reinforcement Program.

The line between community and developer is blurred with NS2 and UWE. People often say they want that from developers. They say they want developers to be very involved, very open. But it can lead to misunderstandings like this. If I had my time again, I would have tried to help the NS2WC team get a dedicated, non-UWE website put up. Sometimes the line needs to be clearer, or people find reasons to skewer both their fellow player and the game developer.

I highly doubt an esport tourney will take away a large chunk of time from the bug fixing coders.

The tourney should be a good promotion for NS2 and any fan of this game should be happy.

Wish that money was put toward fixing netcode to reasonably support 16v16.
