Natural Selection 2

Natural Selection 2

Statistiche:
Haven't played since build 249, and I have some questions
1. What happened to the alien side? I don't understand anything anymore.
2. I'm seeing a lot of flamethrower users in matches now, did it get buffed?
3. Did they change wall jumping? I'm not going as fast now.
4. Not a question but comment, the new alien vision sucks ):

1. Lot of changes. New biomass system tied to the number of hives that determines when abilities are available. Silence and Cloak got merged into a single Phantom upgrade, and Aura was added. Fades are much more difficult to use, Lerks got buffed significantly, Skulks no longer have the consistency of cinder blocks.

2. Yes. It actually does noticeable damage now, and is cheaper than it used to be.

3. Yes. It functions a bit more like bhop in older games did (HL1 and such), but it's a lot easier to pull off once you get the basics down, especially with jump queuing.

4. Won't disagree. I never use it anymore.

Aliens got a wholesale change to their tech tree. Research is now species specific at crags/shifts/shades/whips rather than at the Hive and specific traits like bile bomb require levels of "biomass" which is researched at the hive.

Flamethrowers are cheaper and require no research to build from the advanced armory. They got buffed in 248 and had some damage reduced.

Alien movement code got a wholesale change.

It's really bad in well lit areas or partially lit areas like parts of refinery. Some servers are running a modified version.

Also, armories do not repair armor anymore, but welders require no research.
Walljump is easy now, jump of wall to get speed, strafejump to maintain speed
So the more hives you have, the more biomass you aquire, thus having more upgrades?
Essentially. You simply research a single 'Gorge upgrade' category for example from it's associated structure, and the abilities become available once you obtain enough biomass.

12 biomass. Each hive gives you 1-3 biomass. You can upgrade hive biomass from the hive. 20 for the first upgrade, 30 for the second. Biomass increases the health and armor of all lifeforms. Pulling up your map will show your teams' biomass. Under 9 of the first biomass icons are abilities of all the lifeforms. The last 3 biomass are extra health and armor, but can only be achieved if the map has enough techpoints to provide a 4th hive.

To unlock abilities two things must happen: You must research the lifeform and also have the correct biomass. The research for lifeforms are found as such: any hive can unlock the gorge; any whip can upgrade the skulk: crag for ono; shift for lerk; shade for fade.

So for example: If skulks want to leap. The ability is listed upder the 4th biomass. Aside from building a whip and unlocking the lifeform, you also need to: Get 4 hives, 3 hives (one upgraded once), 2 hives (both upgraded once), or 2 hives (one upgraded twice).

Also only gorge and lerk egg-drops untill three hives. A new ability to infest anywhere on the map becomes an option at three hives.

So having those structures and then researching the upgrade gives you the selected upgrade? How do you get certain tier upgrades like early game upgrades(celerity/adreneline) to upgrades you would see later on (xenocide or leap)

Celerity and stuff are unlocked by choosing the appropriate Hive path (crag/shift/shade) and therefore, gaining access to Shells, Spurs, or Veils, which give you access to those upgrades. Every upgrade has three levels of effectiveness determined by the number of the associated upgrade structure you have up to three.

Many a server has lagged under the whip farms that contamination has brought. :)

End game if you're marines and wondering why the server just took a nose dive in performance....you know a whip farm is being built.
