AMD and linux are a bad mix.

well there going to have to get better if they dont want to lose the whole PC gaming market over the next few years
Camulos#linux 2 nov 2013, ore 6:12
Yes amd should get better.

dunno if already tried, but try start NS2.exe as ADMIN and/or verify your NS2 data folder via steam(again).

thanks will do!

also verify your fglrx installation. be using dkms, and be sure glxinfo returns "Direct rendering: yes"

when and if that's not confusing, and you're sure it's all squared away, NS2 should be working.

gonna rebuild my os with cinnamon and place the latest 10.0 Mesa on with 13.8 beta catalyst and see if that works
The-Owl 4 nov 2013, ore 13:59
ok it works but the performance is unplayable on an AMD APU

so dont buy if you have Llano , Trinity or Richland APU at any level (i have A10-5800k @ 4.4 ghz and 1000 GPU core with 8 gb 1600mhz RAM)

this is with Cinnamon and latest Mesa + latest Catalyst driver.

Perhaps Nvidia is good?

Average FPS for me @ 1080p on low settings is 2FPS with texture glitches.

this game is too demanding for laptops

Incorrect, I can play it fine.

However, lesser laptops probably can't run it.
Camulos#linux 5 nov 2013, ore 5:10
yeah if you pay thousand+ for a laptop you can play it fine for about 15mins

Run the game in Windows. The OpenGL renderer provides 50% of the performance in Windows compared to the DirectX9 one, and AMD drivers in Linux are a lot slower than they are in Windows, so you're looking at a GPU upwords of 70% slower in Linux than in Windows.

Futhermore your drivers are outdated. You should be running the latest beta version, but again the game will be too slow even if you do get it running.

i re-installed with catalyst 13.4 stable and mesa 9.2 with kernal 3.11 and the performance is now about 20fps so about right given igpu and the 30% drop over the windows drivers
