Soon you will discover that a rookie com means a fast defeat.

Get used to the game before, then you will be able to try.

The reason why people don't like rookies commanding is because of the following:
- You don't have a mic
- You don't show a willingness to learn, ie. not asking questions
- You are quiet
- You are not familiar with the UI
- You are not familiar with the mechanics of commanding and team resources

Go familiarise yourself with the UI, basic elements of commanding, have a mic and you will be fine. Don't just sit there twiddling your thumbs wondering "WTF do I do?" and saying nothing, having a mic in most cases will vastly improve your odds of people accepting you as their commander. You can also ask a vet to nominate themselves as field commander.

Rookies should not com. To be a decent com takes a fair amount of time learning both sides and the maps. A good com cannot save a bad team, but a bad com can doom a good team.

It's true you have to learn somehow, but you can do that on tutorial and with bots and get in the chair with real players after a substantial investment of time.

Sigh, I had a comm in the chair yesterday with 2 hours of gameplay under his belt. He didn't do too bad, but he didn't now what structures did, what the tech tree was, or which areas of the map were important to hold =/

Also, a server marked "Rookie Friendly" is not usualy rookie friendly when it comes to commanding for the above reasons.

There are a couple specificly tagged as "Noob only" that you can learn on. The admins are fairly active there, and remove non-helpful/abusive veterans.
I spent a few hours on a Noob Only server in spectate/com.

Aliens won 4 games in a row, but I was betting they'd win one of those. I went COM for Marines on the 5th and they won.

Go play on a Noob Only server as they make Vets either spectate or command. They don't let them play in the field.

Those players are rather pointless. Just keep on friend. Some will call you a troll comm for a minor mistake. Ignore them. They're just a drag. Cya around commander.

I for one don't mind rookie commanders. Being on the feild after comanding two losses is a must. I'm quick to defend any rookie commander, so keep playing.

Checking your map as a commander is the best tip I can give. Knowing the locations important. Something that just happens in time and can still be wrong. I still say Flight control for Launch control. This doesn't effect pros so much, but does make it hard on new players to respond.

Sure first time i tryed to pratilice with bots but that's not the same. The Alien bots just go forward only as Skulk and die or win the game in like 45 seconds:/

Alien bots are really dumb. If I were you, I'd go play on explore mode to learn the tech tree then get a solid 50 or so hours to learn both sides and the map before getting ito the chair. Also, a mic helps.

Yes, everyone says "get a mic", and i have one, but i have horrible english cuz I'am just learning it so i don't realy want to use mic. Also i don't want to spend 50 hours with doing nothing but learning tech trees:/

You don't. You just need to play the game as a ground pounder and get experience with the layouts of each map before hopping in. Goes a long way in terms of response times when people refer to specific locations on the map.

Explore mode is just for tech tree. Spend at most 30 minutes in there. That's all you should need.

The 50 hours is to learn what a team needs, when it needs it and how those change based on the current status of the game. It's basically impossible to do this outside of the chair. A good commander is also a good soldier. You can't effective lead or support your team unless you know what it's like on the ground.

For instance, it's somewhat hard to tell the proper angles in rooms and thus placing sentries and whips may result in bad placements. Now, if you spent time fighting in those rooms, you'd know the optimal location for them. For Marine commander, there are some rooms that are just a pain in the butt to fight in conventionally, and rather than spend money on exos and have a long drawn out fight that leaves you vulnerable elsewhere, it's better to spend the money on a few ARCs, take out the Hive and move on. Experience like this is IMO, only gathered by fighting on the ground.
