Loading times...
Awesome game, running @ steady 40-50 FPS
BUT What is up with those loading times? Seriously..? I have to wait like 5-10minutes until the map is loaded, especially the precaching proces takes forever.
Is it possible to reduce the loading times?

Disabling consistency seems to do the trick at reducing load times.

Steps
1) Open Run program for Windows (in Start Menu) and type: %appdata%
Or go to this directory: C:\Users\YourComputerName\AppData\Roaming

2) Open the "Natural Selection 2" folder, right click "ConsistencyConfig" and click "Open With"

3) Click "Browse" and find "Notepad", click "OK"

4) Select all of the code in the "ConsistencyConfig" file, and replace it with this:

{
"restrict": [ ],
"check": [ ],
"ignore": [ ]
}

5) Save the file and exit, now play NS2 and try joining a server / your own private game. It should reduce load times a ton.

40-50 fps is terrible just fyi...
2nd some server shave a lot more consistency checks so it takes longer....
3 the game is decently demanding...
4 ur first load will take longer..
5 i have an ok pc. and loads are under 20 seconds.

some times its just the server tho. u can try verifying cache has fixed some issues for people in the past

Okay let me get this clear 40-50 is an excellent fps though not preferred since 60 fps is the standard for pc gamers and 30 fps is the standard for console gamers...if you feel its playable and its different from person to person then go the ♥♥♥♥ ahead buddy. play the crap out of those fps if its enjoyable..

im playing 50-60 fps myself and im almost always top 3.
Swarley Jan 17, 2014 @ 11:46pm
depends on the person and what they are used to tbh.
and consoles at 30 ? maybe the 360 but the xbox 1 and ps4 can play bf4 at 60 fps almost constant with dips to 50.

i have a 144hz monitor... i can tell a huge diff if i ever go under 60..... 40 fps in a first person shooter game to me feels laggy.

I doubt your FPS is contributing much to your ranking, but nice humblebrag,

In Danish we have a word for the attitude of not being able to cope with others excelling: Jantelov.

I've seen mushtazm play and he does indeed consistently place top 3... and yes, having a consistently high framerate of course helps with that.

the human eye only picks up 34 fps or there abouts so dont listen to people who say they can see more, it's a physical impossibility. What they are seeing are lag spikes either hardware or ping related so obviously to eliminate the spikes you're better off with a higher FPS so if you have 60fps and it dips to 40fps you wont notice it, but if you have 40fps and it dips to 28fps you will notice it with the human eye.

Tried that, still and insane long time, like I haven't even been able to get into any game. At times it times out and brings me back to the menu, even on tutorial. Played this before, what the hell. Alt tabbing causes my whole computer to lock up and I have to restart.

I have a craptastic comp and I get 25-30 on most games. 25 is definitely playable. 40-50 definitely isn't terrible.

B268 is due out later today, it does address loading times. You should notice a improvement in loading times.

So has anyone had this method work for them? I wanna try it out.
