is there a trick to killing the aliens (mailnly skulks)
Hi I am quite new to the game but I wanted to know if there was a trick to killing the aliens?

The reason why I ask is because when I have played as skulk, the opposing marines can kill me with 3 - 4 bullets.

When I am a marine it takes around 20 bullets to kill a skulk. (if I'm lucky. lol)

So what am I doing wrong?

When I asked in the server I was on, I just got tons of abuse saying how rubbish I am at the game. (even though it was supposed to be a rookie server, the players didn't seem, or act like rookies)

Erm, there is no trick, other than getting better. It takes 9 bullets with each bullet dealing 10 damage; skulks early game having 70hp+10 armor(which absorbs 20 damage). You get the illusion that it takes 20 becuase you are missing alot, due to skulks jumping and moving in random, unpredictable patterns and/or your aim is bad. And when you play as skulk, it feels like you die instantly, because you probably run in a straight line on the ground and you get bursted down immediately.

By rookie servers I assume you mean the green "rookie-friendly" servers. Anyone can play on them, Its just supposed to mean that rookies are welcome to play on it. As for the abuse, that's an issue that probably came with the 1 dollar sales; large ammounts of new players are filling up every server including the non-rookie ones, making current players extremely frustrated.

Also based on how much you exaggerate in your post I wouldnt be surprised if you were raging in all chat in the first place.

So you're saying that the only reason they raged at me is because I started it....... ok then.

All I did was type "how come as alien I die really quick but as marine it takes ages to kill an alien"

Then the reply was " f**k you, you just suck"

But hey, you can think what you like.

I guess I will just practice more and see if things improve.

@Ey3ball thanks will check out the video.
No one has the right to complain when you're on a rookie server and dont be put off if some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ replies negatively back to your questions, if it was me i would have helped its good to help rookies it makes for a better game atleast thats how i was treated when starting out.

A big tip i always notice rookies forget when dealing with aliens is they fire all their ammo in one go instead of burst fire shots, be more careful with your shots and and if you run out of ammo when the aliens come at you quickly switch to your Pistol and start jump/strafing from left to right.

Just keep your distance and don't fire if you can't hit. Try and save most of your clip till you can be sure to hit the skulk. Strafing and jumping left or rigth can also buy you some time to land more hits and reload. If the skulk has no armor the pistol actually does far more damage then the LMG so switching to it is a good way to finish off a skulk if you missed too many shoots before your clip is out. Try and use the buddy system as well but remember not to block each others shots, as a skulk using marines as cover is a vaible tactic because they block bullets. Also Rookie Friendly =/= rookie server so unless it specifically says noobs only then you can be sure that some vets will be playing on it.

The other players are just really good - that, and you may not have the framerate required to play really well (I can relate to that part). Make sure your game is setup to give you a consistently high framerate. NS2 attracts the elite FPS players so the reason the others seem really good is... they are. The community is mostly made up of very skilled, very rude and immature (as you have noticed) players.
Keep your distance and when you hear the aliens moving crouch and approach silently. The first engagement is all about mind games and sound plays a big part. Try to look at the ceilings and other areas where the aliens might hide. If your teammate is building the rt, try to keep watch in the next room where the aliens might be coming from
Dont be put off by a few negative comments, when you start playing you are gonna suck, its a fast pace game and more difficult to get good at than any COD type game.
What i found difficult to get my head around at first as a marine was predicting where a sculk is jumping to and aiming there rather than where the sculk is, kind of leading your target so to speak.
If you dont get used to doing this you will waste most of your bullits shooting behind the sculk, kind of chasing him about with your bullets, try to bring down a lerk or fade without leading to some degree with the smg, lol, good luck.
One of the problems with the server/client is a weird half second delay, its difficult to explain but you find yourself dieing for example before you have reacted on screen, its kind of like you run around a corner to get away from bullets but you still die even though you are out of the way round the corner.
You do get used to it in the end but it bugged the hell out of me when i started playing, you learn little things like not sitting still and chewing a resource tower, you keep moving as you bite because by the time you see a marine come into the room on his screen he would have already fired of a few and you will be dead before you react.
Train yourself to fire your rifle in bursts, you save more ammo and forces you to re-aim at your target.

Back up. Lots of rookie players rush skulks. Makes no sense. It would be like trying to rush a lion when you have a rifle. Also, learn to side jump. Back jumping doesn't do much and gets you killed often.

Also, they cannot kill you with 3~4 bullets. Rifle does 10 per shot, so that's like 10 shots if you have full armor. But a rifle can burst out alot of bullets very quickly.

Many rookie marines also bunch up which makes it harder to shoot anything. Spacing out lets you cover each other.

As for the rookie serviers, that doesn;'t mean anything. Only admin enforced Noob Only servers are full of rookies.
