the game is very much cpu dependant anyway, GPU doesn't do a lot on this one.

Incredibly true

Except when your CPU is not ancient, even an i3-2120 will have enough power to have your game constantly waiting for your GPU. Though loading times should improve still with faster CPUs.

And you should know, as your new CPU (4670) is state of the art while your midrange GPU (7850) is still holding your performance a little back at 1920x1080 ;-)

I just spent a lot of money, can't really afford a new GPU. I don't play BF4 or Crysis 3. Everything is perfect for me now, I run all my games great! Also loading times are great now. Used to be 3-6 minutes each time, then a further 2 mins for textures to load.
Now I load in around 1 min 10 seconds first time, and then 14 SECONDS after that, madness. Textures load in instantly. If I ran 2 7850's in crossfire would there still be a bottleneck then? I heard my GPU in Crossfire can run BF4 ultra with 98 average fps!

Two 7850s, or even a single 280x should max out the game just fine on 1080p.
Anyway, I don´t think that maxing out the game is that important anyway.

I have this game more or less maxed out @ 1080p. I have atmospherics and bloom turned off because... I don't like them. Did 2 benchmarks from a 20 min game and a 30 min game the other day, included both early game and end game environments. First game I averaged 81fps, second game 87.

As I said, maxing out the game is not that important. I have deactivated bloom and atmospherics as well to improve my endgame performance, dipped sometimes down to a 40 FPS on heavy end-game battles with it on my 7870 on maximum. :)

This will depend on his system.

7850 wont be a bottleneck. Its not, even with the 3570K at stock.

He should esely be able to get 60+ FPS end game with high settings.

Turn down your screen resolution, that's a real killer.

I can actually run this with "only" a HD5850 on high settings ,antialias active and all shadows , everything on @ 60 FPS. As a CPU i got a X4 965 . I think quad cores are kinda required to run this game high, more than the GPU.

I had that exact processor and a HD7850 2GB overclocked to 1GHz and could not get that FPS or anywhere close on those settings....

I actually have problems only in that room with rain falling on windows in eclipse ( i think ) , but on the menu thing i have 60 FPS. The game runs smotoh anyway.

Same CPU here. And yes it is possible, but not the entire game. Main menu is above 100 FPS, early game consistent 60+ FPS, but it drops to 30 when 10 marines start pushing a hive together (especially late game)
I doubt it has anything to do with quads tho, pretty sure a current gen dual core intel would beat this easy.
