Is a mic needed for commander?
I've heard some people say yes since it's faster and easier... But others have said no because it's definintly possible your just slower. Thoughts? I like playing commander but I can't use a mic because I usually play around people and they'd get annoyed.

You've already gotten your answer. Not having/using a mic as commander is a liablity to yourself and your team given the fast pace of this game. Yes you can play without it but you will be far more effective with one.

FYI im a full time silent commander - whenever i want to communicate with my team i just write it down and ping the map

@ butter: you mean right click on the place and type in chat what to do? Like right click on.., eclipse and say 'take this'?

To cut this short:
Yes you can but without you won't be a good commander!

Just don't ever write as a marine comm, the most annoying garbage I see from mic-less comms are "spam Q -> Red Screen -> Yellow text w/ useless info -> Low fade walking away".

Mic not required but is highly recommended. Typing out warnings/commands will put you at a distinct disadvantage vs a Commander that is using a microphone simply because they can bark out orders faster than you can type. Silent comming is fine, but you'll find it easier to play with a mic.

But you're slower though. Typing is simply just an inferior method of quick communication. Furthermore, if you need to change tactics on the fly, it's simply not as feasible. And if someone has a hard to type name, you're even slower at communicating with them. And how do you type and drop medkits at the same time?

If your team are idiots, then you will need a mic to guide them around. If your team are decent they should know what to do based on how the map looks.

I suppose if your a good experienced com and have reliable teammates I've seen some coms like that and they did alright but it's more effective having a mic. Also be a fast typer if not using a mic lol.
