Fade OP? Need strategies to counter them.
I can bring a fade down to almost-death 9000 times in a game and no matter what, they'll always just blink away to safety, heal and then come and finish me off. Even if im a jetpacker touching the ceiling, they just blink up, hit me once or twice before they get blasted to almost-death, then just run off back to their crag, heal, and then come back 10 seconds later with full health and finish me off before i can even reload, get full health and armour back.

Any strategies that anyone knows which work well against them?

P.S. I know the simple stuff. I know to bunnyhop and strafe. Still doesnt help me put 50 bullets into them before they give me a measly 3 hits to kill.

setup a pinch for the fade, look at it's path on the map and try to see if there is a repeat in how the fade moves. Have a shotgunner go deep in neutral territories and be there for the pinch once the fade is retreating back to the hive to heal. It takes 2-3 good and well communicating mariens to pull it off, but the reward in it feels good :). This method even works for lerks

You are not supposed to fight fade one on one. Bring your friends next time, pal.

Everything that has been said + equip a shotgun and make your comm go for w3 early. Tears Fades to pieces. 2 marines with w3 shotguns almost give no reaction time to the Fade. That's probably what I die most often to when I'm fading.

If you want to solo fade, grab a shotgun and ask com for meds when he attacks. Also good aim, and block possible escape routes; with JP you try to chase him down.

With teamwork it's easier, get another buddy with a shotgun and with 2 hits from each of you he'll be dead. Otherwise intercept fleeing fades or setup traps (i.e. 1 marine hidden so fade can't see him next to room entrance - only works aliens don't have aura though).

Rifle is almost useless against good fades sind several builds, so I would not bother (solo anyway, ofc you should be shooting a fade :P ! ). Needs 2 mags to kill one, and that is if you aim very well.

One more thing: as soon as you notice the Fade is about to retreat, get your pistol out and finsih it off. Pistol does more burst damage than Rifle and is more accurate too.

One thing none has mentioned is Fades need room to manuevre. You can trap or block a Fade by simply using the enviroment to your advantage. Do things like hide behind railing so he can't blink and swipe you because the rails will block his hit. You can also hide between buildings hoping the fade will get stuck on them if he goes for you.

Chester: That's a really good idea, unfortunately it will be hard to pull off using text chat since i don't have a mic- Still, i'll give it a go!

Liniyka: I'm not talking solely about 1v1. A good Fade can blink into a group of 2 or 3 marines and slowly wear them down by blinking in and out. Especially if there's a crag close nearby, it's a piece of cake.

dot: Mines are a good idea, but just add to the extremely high cost in fighting a winning battle with a Fade. Groups of 2-5 Marines can win easily, sure, but that means that the enemy has 1-4 extra units per Fade to dispense around the other parts of the map, essentially winning by the Fade's hands.

Kwisatz: That's a good idea, however similar to dot's idea of mines, that's just adding to the cost of fighting a Fade. And especially since w3 costs 40, which is a very high amount early game, that takes away the comm's ability to build other essential buildings early such as phase gates. +1 to the Aliens either way :/

#OMEGA: Even with a shotty and jetpack, a good Fade player can win most fights, simply because they can run away for health, and marines can't. Marines can get med drops, sure, but basically when the marine runs out of ammo in the clip, it's gg.

Also JPs can't chase a fade down. Fades can blink into vents easier, turn corners without losing speed, and can blink for longer than a jetpack can fire (i think). So basically, unless you've got someone waiting at their crag (which is what i'm gonna try now) they're gonna get away every time.

Anyway thanks for the collective tips, i'll put them to the test :)

2-3 marines that can aim turn fades into swiss cheese. Note that aim is required.

Fades die to 2 shotgun blasts and a few pistol shots. They only have -490 effective health. You need to kill them with shotguns and pistol burst damage. A single LMG just doesn't have the burst damage to kill a Fade before it releazes it has to leave the room. A full pistol unload will do 250 damage and that's just one marine firing so the whole they have too much health arguement would mean that Fades would be even more paper thin than they are now, they have already been nerfed hugely.

Fades don't fight alone (on good servers). Two fades will destroy 4 marines. Add in a skulk or two and nearly the whole team is wiped out.

I agree with the people that say that Fades don't have too much health. I think what's overpowered is the speed and duration of their blink. What i think would be best if anything is to slow down the speed of their blink slightly so that its actually possible to clip them as they're trying to escape, and also so that jetpackers actually have a chance to catch them.

Anyway, today i faced 2 high level fade players and eventually killed them both with a grenade launcher/jetpack. It took really good aim and anticipation of their movements plus a bit of luck, but i think i'm getting better at it. 2 Grenade launcher shots plus a teammate popping off a few rifle shots can kill them, but this was when marines were stuck in the main base and the game was already lost. I still think its too hard to kill a fade who is in his own or neutral territory...

Then again, if i'm in neutral territory, i shouldn't be too far away from a few teammates, so i guess ultimately the key is to just play more and get better. I only have 50 hours clocked; i'm sure good fade players have hundreds of hours of experience.

Anyway thanks for the comments everyone, they have helped!

Happy Fade Hunting :)

P.S. If you play on Australian servers, feel free to add me if you want to play.
