Phase Gate balance.
The Phase Gate is a lovely building. Let's marines insta-transport anywhere they have one. But, personally, I think that it's a liiiitle bit OP. As a response to this, Unknown Worlds put in the Gorge tunnel. Now, that's incredibly useful, but here's something that I find a tiiiny bit annoying with that. Gorge tunnels take time for Aliens to get through, unlike the Phase Gate's insta teleporting. Gorge tunnels only connect to 1 other tunnel. The Phase Gate connects to EVERY other phase gate. Marines can go through Gorge Tunnels, even though they lose armour. Aliens CANNOT go through Phase Gates.

These are all of the balancing issues I can think of for the Phase Gate. A few things they could do to fix it (in my opinion) is to either make it take time to use a Phase Gate. Make Aliens able to go through Phase Gates, but lose all of their armour, or some of their health. Make Phase Gates only connect to 1 other Phase Gate.

If anyone thinks that these would be good changes, other changes, or if I'm just a bumbling ♥♥♥♥♥, please, mention some constructive criticism.

Have you ever noticed that aliens have many times the movement speed of marines? If aliens were as slow as marines then you'd have a point, but Lerks and Fades are in particular incredibly fast.

Marine speed only really matters in the early game. In the mid-late game, it is easily circumvented by jetpacks and phase gates.

The early game is usually at least half of the game. The movement speed between the two teams makes a massive difference, and there's no issue with bouncing in between bases later in the game for aliens.

To give you an idea of how much of a difference this makes, aliens didn't even have gorge tunnels for a while, and their win rate was far higher. When things started to get balanced out the gorge tunnels became more important, but you're massively overstating the need for more alien movement. The game has been asymetrically balanced with aliens compensating for a lack of phase gates with very fast movement speed. The devs are acutely aware of the importance of movement in this game. They didn't overlook the need for a powerful counter to instant teleportation on the marine side.
