A bad game to you?
For me, it's when you know it's over for your team, but it seems like you're the only one who knows it. To relate, It's like playing chess with someone who has no chance to win but it still takes them five minutes to move next. Okay, that's too easy to say as of late. Just venting while the marines finish us off.

That happens on rookie servers with new people. A good opponent team finishes off weak team in one-two coordinated moves. But if it's two teams of newcomers: one team goes inside last enemy base one by one and die one by one and it lasts very long till some random moment.

It's same as if players in battlefield were running around not knowing how to shoot/reload. When people learn game it goes a ton better, though learning NS2 is way harder than learning how to reload.

So, you can gather your team together to wipe out the enemy, or if you can't/you're on the sieged side then vote to concede(in the voiceovers menu)/restart(the Esc menu). Ideal option would be to play in a real team or at least gather people that are willing to cooperate from those who are on the server.

Again, these rookie games are nothing close to what real NS2 game is, but pity that if you play among other rookies you may loose interest in the game without even seeing it's true color. Maybe watching some competitive NS2 games can help a bit, see this for messages about current competitive event streams and game development in general: https://twitter.com/NS2

Hope you enjoy =)

There are no bad matches. Stop being a quitter.

Don't be that guy who goes "UGH, EVERYONE HIT X TO CONCEDE" when you don't have a second tech point within 10 minutes.

Don't try to predict the match while it's still in motion. I've seen plenty of ridiculous comebacks in my time, you just have to stop giving up when things look bad, because you've only lost when nobody is left to fight.

That being said, when a match goes 1+ hour(s) due to the marines turtling (I'm looking at you, Mineshaft), and resist every attempt to breach their defenses, I find that's usually a good time to find another server.

While I do disagree on the conceding too early thing, I've won games before when I as the comm thought it was GG but you can't just apply that to all games that are favoring one team in < 10 minutes. If you can't get out of your base for example, if the enemy team has the whole map in RTs and you have 1-2, if the opposite team is stacked, etc.

It's best just to concede in those situations because whats the point of getting spawn killed over and over when you can just get a better game going and avoid the painful experience of a slow and dull death.

I think a bad match is when we have the potential to win but the commander doesn't realize it even when recommended strategies, and the rest of the team doesn't understand what to do in this situation.

Pushing the king over in chess is not an act of quitting. Start again. You ignore the frustration of others. I like to point that out, because you're not right all the time. Someone else might know when to retreat to fight another day verses the server dieing to no comms or one team leaves. Many factors to consider before calling people quitters.

On the other hand sir: what you consider a bad game could be solved with the aliens conceding. :) the game is won already right?
