I can also say that there are still plenty of servers to choose from, especially now with the humble bundle people such as myself coming in.
I haven't been playing long enough to tell you the other bits as I've only played a bot match or two and have been too busy the last few days to get into any real matches.
Also, props for the gamer pic and username. I grew up on Sarge's Heroes and Spyro the Dragon.
I don't know anything about CoD or Battlefield so can't really comment on level grinding, but you all start out even and have to choose how to spend your personal resources to best support your team mates. Your commander - who plays the game as if it were an RTS - can also upgrade your team's armour, give you buffs, create new structures which give you access to more abilities, etc.
The community is active atm. I am one of the many who have picked this up and have been loving the last three days of playing.
I don't have any more answers, but I suspect you might enjoy it.
As for server ping, i live in brazil, but i am usually fine with US Ping, not so much with european ones (with exceptions), ideally a brazilian server would be nice, but i guess that even if such exists, it probably doesnt have much people that play on it.
2) Voice is supported natively by the game, and IMO should be mandatory. Get a mic and talk to your team, it makes the game so much better. The team without a talking commander usually does badly.
3) There is quite a nice community, go to http://forums.unknownworlds.com, also, check RedDog's youtube casts of competitive matches.
4) Servers are scattered all over thje world, I have 18 ms latency to my ISP and usually can get a game with around 30-50ms latency.
Thanks for the input but a friend of mine gifted it to me yesterday, played alot of it, fell in love and out of a certain "guilt" for getting such a great game for free i went and donated to the Reinforcement program.
If only Verdun (another game i recently bought) had just a tiny amount of essence that this game has, i was suprised to see people playing it in a even more organized manner than Red Orchestra 2.
There are brazilian servers as far as I know, and you can always host your own server. Though as brazilian servers in general have often ping problems even for brazilians US servers should work as well and have a larger population.
Already did, its really fun!
