A couple of questions about Natural Selection 2
Hello guys, i have been eyeing up NS2 for quite a while now but have a couple of questions about it.

1- Does this game include level grinding (as in CoD/Battlefield style level grind)? its something i really not a fan of. If it does have level grinding, does it take much time to get max level?

2- It seems to be a really teamwork heavy game, does it include voice by default? coming from games like RO2 or Arma, i have learned that proper voice chat is essential for any proper teamwork in public games.

3-Is the community active? will i find full servers easily?

4-Where the "main" servers are located? i would hate to buy this game only to find out the lowest ping i can have in a server is around 250-300 or so.

I am also thinking of spending the 75bucks for the reinforcement program, whats your opinion on that?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that it does not have a level grind. Everything is within the individual matches. I think that's how Counter Strike works. Not sure as I admit I really haven't played Counter Strike in a while. But everything is contained within the matches. Everyone starts on an even playing field (aside from skill and game experience, obviously).

I can also say that there are still plenty of servers to choose from, especially now with the humble bundle people such as myself coming in.

I haven't been playing long enough to tell you the other bits as I've only played a bot match or two and have been too busy the last few days to get into any real matches.

Also, props for the gamer pic and username. I grew up on Sarge's Heroes and Spyro the Dragon.

I'm also a big Arma fan, and yeah - there's a PTT. The best games have people communicating with each other.

I don't know anything about CoD or Battlefield so can't really comment on level grinding, but you all start out even and have to choose how to spend your personal resources to best support your team mates. Your commander - who plays the game as if it were an RTS - can also upgrade your team's armour, give you buffs, create new structures which give you access to more abilities, etc.

The community is active atm. I am one of the many who have picked this up and have been loving the last three days of playing.

I don't have any more answers, but I suspect you might enjoy it.

Natural Selection does not have a level grid. Everything resets new each round. Think Star Craft. There is in game voice built in, just a matter of having a mic and pushing the button. It shouldn't be hard at all to find a server with ppl playing, from a "light load" to full. There isn't a "main" server per say, but there are servers in most parts of the world. Not all parts however. As for the $75 program, I myself have bought it and am happy having done so.

Thanks for the replies everyone, since C&C Renegade kinda died out i was looking for a RTS/FPS Hybrid (and the Commander position in NS2 seems kinda like being the commander in BF2/BF2142, so its even better) and this game seems to fill up its shoes.

As for server ping, i live in brazil, but i am usually fine with US Ping, not so much with european ones (with exceptions), ideally a brazilian server would be nice, but i guess that even if such exists, it probably doesnt have much people that play on it.

1) No grinding in MMORPG sense. There is research and tech progression in the game, but every round starts from scratch. Also, no paid advantages in Free-To-Play style. You can pay for a few extra skins to support the devs, and that's it. Fair, skill dependent.

2) Voice is supported natively by the game, and IMO should be mandatory. Get a mic and talk to your team, it makes the game so much better. The team without a talking commander usually does badly.

3) There is quite a nice community, go to http://forums.unknownworlds.com, also, check RedDog's youtube casts of competitive matches.

4) Servers are scattered all over thje world, I have 18 ms latency to my ISP and usually can get a game with around 30-50ms latency.

Thanks for the input but a friend of mine gifted it to me yesterday, played alot of it, fell in love and out of a certain "guilt" for getting such a great game for free i went and donated to the Reinforcement program.

If only Verdun (another game i recently bought) had just a tiny amount of essence that this game has, i was suprised to see people playing it in a even more organized manner than Red Orchestra 2.

There are brazilian servers as far as I know, and you can always host your own server. Though as brazilian servers in general have often ping problems even for brazilians US servers should work as well and have a larger population.

You really should try Project Reality mod for BF2.
