I think this game needs a matchmaking system
I can't speak for others, so I'll just show you my opinion. I really like the matchmaking systems, in which you just need to click on a 'find match' button, wait and play like in csgo, dota, sc2.
Are there any ongoing plans about inplementing such a thing in this game?

At least for me, I'd play way more if this game had a proper matchmaking system which doesnt let players leave constantly during (or after a game, while next map is loading) a game resulting in underpopulation in one of the teams or the whole server. 4v4 is not fun to play. Problem with players leaving while the map is loading also is pretty uncomfortable as a player since the maps load fairly long and from what I experienced servers potentially fill pretty slow.
I'd rather wait 5 more minutes after a game instead of first wasting some time loading the game and afterwards either wait 10+ minutes in the waiting room - which is also pretty difficult to achieve since most players also leave if a server is empty - or play a pointless 4v4 which just is not very fun, at least to me.

I don't know anything about the financial costs of developing a decent mm-system, I don't mean to be rude.

What are your opinions about matchmaking? yaiy or nay?

I think I have to disagree. Matchmaking systems seem to cause in many cases more trouble on community behavior than they are worth.

It's not plausible to have matchmaking because the playerbase is too small to support consistent matchmaking.

Mtachmaking is one of the worse things to happen to video games IMO. Plus it would never work with a game this small anyway.

It's baffling that there are people who oppose matchmaking. Maybe you've never played a match where the teams were horribly mismatched, I have, most of the matches in natural selection 2 are horribly mismatched. Maybe many games have done matchmaking poorly, but compared to what there is now (nothing), but even a less than perfect matchmaking system would be fantastic.

The playerbase is too small for a traditional matchmaking system.

But the developers should implement an optional system that balances out the skill level between teams through a ranking system.

For example let’s say there are four really good players with a high ranking on a server, the system would allow only 2 of them to be on the same team.

In csgo ranked matchmaking works, but I don;t think it will work with ns2, at least not for me. I don't want to play this game in a competitive way.

Servers should use ELO stats ranking in order to determine teams, similar to matchmaking but you will still often be up against players much better than you but the teams will be stacked LESS often.

I'd love to see matchmaking that pits me against players of similar skill. That would be a huge boon to the game except I don't think there are enough players for it to really work.

Matchmaking is allready on the way and will be released in the next months. Due to the fact that uwe is such a small dev team things take more time than they might should.

Matchmaking was allready announced like 10 month ago.

Hope is a big improvment on picking two balanced teams when everyone goes random from the lobby, about 1 in 10 at the minute :(

How would you measure commander skill levels? Simple win/loss isn't exactly a reliable indicator.
