Guys we have COD Future Warfare and NS3 + HL3
LOL
The fundamental problem with this game is that most shooters do not require higher cognitive functions. Many players view the game as just another FPS and do poorly at it because they aren't able to view it as a RTS at the same time. You can be a total awesome shot and still lose game after game after game because you're simply outplayed at the strategic level. Games like NS2 require higher cognitive functions. Many games I've seen could have been won if a team had suspended the "fight first enemy I see" and gone with a flank or pincer move on a key base.
That alone is going to severely limit the game's appeal.
Precach can be fixed by moving the game to a 10k RPM drive or an SSD. My preache takes about 3~10 seconds on a SATA III SSD.
As for bad players...you're not going to find an online game without them.
Could the devs do more to make the game optimize better on lower end systems? ABSOLUTELY, but that alone won't save the game.
that way there is no stack , put on random teams
It isn't going to be the magic bullet to stacking that you seem to think it is. There isn't enough granularity in skill levels across the current player base.
And random teams are just as much of a crapshoot.
The game is still extremely complex compared to most other modern shooters, and it will still have performance issues even if you implement your fabled matchmaking that is somehow going to make everyone come back.
MOBAs are also insanely popular right now and are easily one of the newest genres in gaming. Novelty is enough to sell.
Starcraft is even more complex and mechanically demanding than DOTA2 in every way and is significantly less popular.
RTS used to be very popular now they are nearly extinct. Arena FPS used to be really popular but again, they are nearly extinct.
DOTA 2/LoL is only complex in that there are so many hero choices.
That pales in comparison to the complexity of stragetic operational coordination of potentially a dozen players across a large map.
i know, i wasn't saying that the more complex a game is, the higher its playercount will be. i was just pointing out that complexity obviously isn't a dealbreaker in terms of mainstream success.
@100% recycled awesome
i'll admit that my moba-experience consists solely of the 4 hours i put into dota 2 since i never got myself to actually get interested in these types of games. still, i felt way more overwhelmed when i started dota for the first time than i did when i got into ns2. i can't really compare the actual complexity of these 2 games but i am convinced that ns2 isn't too complex for an average player (that does at least ok in other fps) to enjoy. i agree that to be able to pull your own weight in ns2, you need to develop a deeper understanding of the game's mechanics than for many other games, but i still don't see as much of an entry barrier in that fact as you apparently do.
the game map still have mid, lane to push for both team
I'm running a 7200RPM WD Black Drive with auto defrag once a week, and precaching takes all of MAYBE 15 secound of my time... Wow.
Maybe I should move NS2 to a RAM drive for instantanious loading... I mean what will I do with those 15 seconds! My gosh! My life would be complete!
