Well beside commander icon, there are zero unlocks, thank god.. And i doubt this will ever change.
If you mean match making, well.. The player base would need to be something like 6 times larger for the system to remotely work.

I recommend joining servers based on the skill levels shown in the server browser, in the meantime.. It's not incredibly accurate by any means but it's something.

Just had a 56 minute game on the new map Kodiak. It was an intense game on the Alien side as we came so close to our hive being destroyed. With most of the team communicating with Mics we planned an attack and took out one of the many Marine bases. They kept sending dual exos our way with arcs and jetpack Marines but we held tem off. Slowly but surely we made our ground back and won the match. I managed to go 42 kills 2 deaths with my Fade.

THIS is why I play.

What would be nice is some character customisation. In which you get armour parts when you level up. This makes there an objective for those who want one, and still keeps the game fair for new players.

It would have to be limited to 64 bit OS users only though, due to the memory ceiling that's already been hit from the amount of models in game.
Which.. Doesn't sound fair for those 32 bit users

And also IronHorse do not take this as me trying to detract the game from what it is as i can see that this game is a truly unique awesome experience

It's depressing how the state of gaming has turned into one giant Skinner Box. People are no longer wanting to play for the sake of playing, but to achieve effectively meaningless boosts to their egos in the form of fake stuff. Compare this to what Sim City 3000 offered. No leveling. No badges. Nothing but the chance to build an Epic City. And that game had huge numbers of players who played the game for the game itself. Compare that to the cancer of casual gaming which is done primarily to waste time as well as accumulate digital proof that you love a Skinner Box. Even a game like Goat Simulator has this problem, where you're looking for the achievements, even if getting there is exceptionally hilarious.

There is a level up bar. It's on your main screen.

^^ Can someone explain how the level system works, and also the skill system. My Skill level is 329.71 but that epic 56 minute game I just had was on a server with 564.07 skill - miles above me yet I still easily went 42-2.

I think it's a function of K/D and points but I'm not sure. I am pretty sure though that it does play a role in determining the skill level of a server that you see on the server list.

You have to play on certain servers and play for more than a mire 3 hours, it's in the 10's of hours of play for a level.

I suppose, but that I think isn't the problem with player retention. It's more of a function of poor performance on lower end systems, bad optimization, long load times and the obscenely large skill level gap between experienced players and new players. On big rookie weekends, veterans were getting 50-1 kill ratios. That's not good for retaining players.
