Won't run in Win 8.1 64bit w/ Direct X 11
Steam starts the Direct X 1st time setup dialogue, but after it closes the game never starts.

I have graphics card Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX.

Change the renderer to DX9
LOLYeah Apr 9 @ 3:48pm
Sounds good to me. How do I do that?
Azure Zero Apr 9 @ 3:52pm
Yes there is. Go to c:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2 and delete system_options.xml.

You'll need to show hidden files in the file browser as the AppData folder is hidden.

I searched, and file "system_options.xml" does not exist on my hard drive.

Search will not find it because it's prohibited from searching in the User folder and it's subfolders.

It's there, go into Windows Explorer (not internet Explorer)
Go to C:\ drive
Then User
Then Account Folder (The name of the account your logged in)
Then AppData Folder (it's hidden)
Then Roaming Folder
Then Natural Selection 2 folder
system_options.xml is there.

I'm not seeing the path you describe. Are you in windows 8.1?

I see
C:\User\[account name]\
and inside are Documents, Music, Videos, etc...
No "AppData" folder

AppData is hidden, you have to show it.
Go into folder options, click View tab,
Enable the Show hidden by clicking on the show hidden radio button.

Then Appdata will be visable

Ok, I turned on "show hidden files" and found the folders all the way down to "Roaming", but "Natural Selection 2" isn't there.

I'm having the same issue with Chivalry: Medieval Warefare, and the guy on thier forum asked for the same thing. I don't think the program is even getting that far to create those folders.

Then NS did not run and complete setting it self up.

You'll likely need to Re-validate your game Cache.

and reset the show hidden to hidden as showing hidden folders and files weakens the system's security.

I will, thanks, but the file cache is probly fine; it was for Chivalry. I'm new to win 8 (just upgraded from XP) so thanks for all the info on it.
