Ways to improve this game
This game is kinda cool and shoul dbe fun, but i'm only happy like 50% of the time. My main problems are:

Very slow loading. This is the main reason I think I don't want to start playing sometimes. Why is it precaching every time for 3 minutes?

Small team sizes. Should have 32 or 64 players for more action.

Needs more atmosphere. Like papers and things flying in the spaceship. It just looks kinda bland even on highest graphics setting.

Minimap. So I know where I am going.

A way to tell commander what to buy.

That is all. Thank you.

I don't think some of those items could be met due to limitations of the engine, and the fact the engine is using a crap load of Lua script (if more code were C++, it'd likely run better and they could add more).

as for the item: A way to tell commander what to buy.
It's called the "Chat" or "Mic" function, and the commander is the commander, not the soldier.

And there is a mini map just press "C", and Heck I memorise the maps as I play so I don't need the mini-map as much.

And I have my own Ideas to improve the game, but I would perfer the work with the dev team via PM and E-mail and get feedback on the ideas to see if it would be possible and if they like it.

NS2 devs installed SSDs and saw loading times improve by 300%, something you might want to check out!

1) I doubt NS2 will load any faster than it does now, the devs just released an update that decreased the loading time. 1 1/2 min for me now (and I have a crappy pc), and to be honest, that's fine for me.

2) There are custom servers who have more slots than the "regular" 24. But I doubt you want to play at those, from what I've heard the performance sucks because there are too many players and the balance is off. After all NS2 has been designed with 12 to 24 players in mind (at least that's what I'd think...no idea if they intended to balance it for the larger servers, but 12 players minimum).

3) No comment available from me, can't play on high settings and I don't really care.

4) Already exists for the marines, but both teams can also press C for a larger map.

5) Headset/Mic. I don't know what you want more, flashing icons on the comm's screen or spammable commands? Anyway, requests can be done by text or even better a headset, the latter also improves the teamplay/reaction time of the time/etc..

Matchmaking would improve it vastly. See how it goes with CSGO: no team stacking, you're joining a fresh match and it assigns you people of approx. your skill level. In NS2, I just join some server (the quick join always boots me to a server I can't join) and hope the teams will be even.

32 player games are broken in ns2. Literal wall of bullets or teeth. It's fun if no one takes it seriously but that's rare. Stick to 18~24 player.

Atmosphere would make performance worst for most people.

Um....you could talk to your commander? Maybe?

I guess c key is too hard to press?

- Loading is incredibly fast with a good PC on servers with low consistency checks
- 64 player games would cause insane balance and performance issues
- More atmospheric effects would be neat
- There is a mini-map (for marines) - press C for a full map
- Use a Mic/ type in chat

32 player servers are already laggy, and there's no 32 player maps.
There will never be 64 player because the maps are already huge and any larger would throw off all the optimization the team has already done.

I think the game loads in under 20 seconds for myself. Your computer is old, the game is fine, get a new machine or at least get an SSD and do a fresh install of your operating system.

Some of the things you say are revealing to say, you are a newbie. The game is fine with 20 players, it's fine with 12 players, the action is there.

Hold C to check the map, aliens get no mini-map, marines already have a minimap (remember when I said your words are revealing?)

"A way to tell commander what to buy." All of that is already in place, if you are a gorge, you can request a harvester. But really, if the commander is doing his job, you shouldn't ever open your mouth about him doing his job. A lot of 'back seat commanders' in this game. Anyway, if you really need something bought, use a microphone or type stuff with your keyboard, problem solved.

To summarize, everything you said is already taken care of or non-sense.

That would be the laggiest game ever. I remember Onos Bar 40 player and that was a torrential lagfest.

To be honest, I like to hear my team's opinion when I'm the commander, and I also like to tell my commander what's needed on the battlefield. Of course, some commanders see everything and automatically give the right upgrades, but some commanders out there just follow their pre-determined upgrade line and don't care about what the enemy is doing. And I don't know about you, but I like my shotguns vs fades, not arms lab upgrades first. On the other hand I like my weapons upgrades if there are few or bad fades. Same for the aliens, I love to have bilebomb to clear any outposts, but if the marines are rather passive/defensive and don't pressure hive locations with forward bases I think the res are more useful on other upgrades.

I hope you see my point, being able to tell your commander what you as a footsoldier need on the field can make a huge difference. It's just that we already have the ways of communicating, unlike the OP's post which sounds like there is this huge barrier between commander and footsoldier.

Where are you connecting? I usually see about 3 combat servers on US west coast with 10+ players.
