game still not working on linux. got a step further, still nothing :/
So I got the game during the end of 2013 and, up to now, I've been unable to play any games. The game used to start normally and crash after firing a bullet during a game session. It's been a long time now and the game doesn't even launch (had an issue with a non installed 32bit library which prevented the game from starting).
BTW I've seen a lot of 64bit guys complaining about non-starting client. The problem might be that you're missing the 32bit libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 .
As for debian, you need to install libgtk2.0-0:i386.
Back to my case, now the game launches and hangs at the loading screen (Compiling 'shaders/Model.surface_shader').
Here's my log and system_options:
http://pastie.org/8919087
http://pastie.org/8919090

I'm using Catalyst 13.35.5 (from debian jessie repos).
Please look into it, there's a lot of people complaining/being unable to play the game!

Maybe my title wasn't clear enough. There are indeed people who are capable of playing it, though there's a lot of people who are not.

buy an nvidia card problem solve.
TheKindlyHobgoblin 15 mrt 2014 om 6:40vm
got a Radeon HD7950 Black (DoubleD)... not going to get a new card anytime soon. Besides, buying a new card is not a solution, it's just a way to bypass the problem (and should I choose to get back to the open drivers, amd would be my first choise anyway).
ChrisPlaysLinux 15 mrt 2014 om 8:15vm
then go use the open source drivers.

I'm not sure why you keep responding like this. It kinda reminds me of mine_is_better fanboism though on a linux level? :S Changing a driver/gpu because a game is problematically ported and without an official explanation/announcement of the issue (ex Please use the open driver cause we're still in beta/or fixing a bug...) is just stupid. I re-reported a known (or at least well-reported by users) issue with the client, adding complete info of my system, asking gently for the devs to look into it and even provided some info on how to fix a problem with some 32-bit libraries. Therefore I'm just asking you: What's with the ironical tone?
ChrisPlaysLinux 15 mrt 2014 om 8:41vm
or complain to amd they are not using the same shader specification as nvidia.
ChrisPlaysLinux 15 mrt 2014 om 8:43vm
fanboism? This game uses physx - nvidia and shader files that are apparently problematic with amd linux drivers. Send the devs an email to use opencl and fix their shader files. Complaining here wont do anything.

You're right about everything concerning the above. My discomfort had to do with the way you replied abode my last comment. AMD doesn't seem to be fixing it's drivers anytime soon, thus all that we can hope for is that devs stop focusing mainly on Nvidia and start making games to run smoothly on both gpus. My current problem though doesn't have to do with the performance of the game under Linux/AMD (btw I think that you can turn PhysX off in the game's config file). The problem is that the game does not "launch" at all!

Honestly i dont know what happens when physx is off. It might start using your CPU isntead of your GPU. BTW physx doesnt work on linux even if you have nvidia, so again it might use your CPU, which is a huge performance drop in an already heavy CPU game.

I have Xubuntu x64 13.10 and NVIDIA 660 with last drivers from nvidia.com (.run file) everything works fine. the only issue i had with this game was the cursor speed which i fix in the game console (F9) and type in "setsensitivity 0.25" every time i start the game but its not a big deal

I think that "config.save" is supposed to save the configuration from console, though it never worked for me :/

I'm not usually one to shy away from computer knowledge, but everytime i hear about driver problems is another day further before I pick up LInux. GL
