Game Crashes and Textures load slow
Hello

I find that on initial load in, the textures for my gun and other objects tend to take quite a long time when compared with other games, is this normal? I am only playing on medium graphic settings.

My main problem is, however; during the tutorial, if I attack the 2 first aliens as a marine, the game instantly crashes.

EDIT: Spec:

OS: Ubuntu Release 12.04 LTS Unity

What CPU do you have? I used to have a Phenom II 965 3.4GHz and the textures too a good while to load, now have an i5 4670k @ 4.2Ghz and it's instant.

Sounds like you are running Linux..

Sorry, forgot to post spec. So used to it being in my signature:

Bump.

Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems. Do we not have a fix for this?

Same issue here, on linux to. I think its caused by the game is currently not optimized with OpenGL( Beta ).
If it make you feel, the game runs relatively well in real multiplayers session, if you set all your graphical settings on low.

We can hope that the dev are working on.

Sorry for my bad english.

Well certainly seems like many people having similar issues.

How long has this been going on for?

Is the game still in beta or something?

plz OC your q6600... if u got a crappy one u ll still reach 3.00Ghz... if u got a nice one u ll reach 3.60Ghz or with good air cooling u ll reach 4.00Ghz with very good air cooling/water cooling u ll reach 4.20-4.40Ghz (if its a crappy cpu still 3.40-3.60Ghz then)

q6600 SLACR G0 Stepping re the good ones.... (u can see ur stepping with progs like CPU-Z which reads out the G0 stepping or whatever)

A 2GHz overclock? What!

My chip has only just fallen off the high-end benchmark tables. It's still high on the mid range and my card etc are pretty strong.

Not sure overclocking is the solution :/

ok the 4.40ghz ones re rare for 24/7 stable OC and needs high-end-air/water cooling, but seriously reaching 4.00ghz with these nice q6600 SLACR G0 is possible and not that uncommon

OCing a q6600 is never wrong ^_^ and if its the solution dunno too but as LucK_NoT_SkiLL mentioned he swapped his cpu to a newer one with better more modern architecture & more mhz speed and the textures loading became instant hm perhaps try a mild OC to like 3.00ghz and look if it already helped abit(and then go on further)?
alot q6600 G0 go to 2.8ghz-3.0ghz without raising voltage, temps only increase lil bit coz of the higher frequenzy
if u dont want to monitor temps frequently(or because of dust in the fan/warm summer days/just not used to look after) and ur motherboard bios has a safety shutdown option, just put it on system shutdown @ 60° for example (the q6600 SLACR G0 max MAX temp is 71°)

^ I also think replacing my old slow hard drive helped a lot. I still have a basic 7200rpm 1TB drive now but the difference is huge. I'm running my i5 4670k stable @ 4.5GHz with a custom cooler and it never goes above 43*C which is great. But the combination of my CPU and Hard Drive means it's actually possible for me to load from desktop to ready room in a server in 17 seconds :D

My spec either exceeds or meets the Recommended spec then, basically, right?

My HDD is less than a year old. I don't remember the speed - but I remember buying a good speed, heh.
