What for? They already have extremely good weapons.

Typically, one marine that can aim well will decide a pub game, by almost entirely locking down one way out of the two-three that are available on maps, and maybe occasionally sweeping nodes / buildings on the other ways.

And if all people aimed quite well, there wouldn't be a game above 4v4 that even works at all.

LMG? It's the default weapon for marines. You probably mean the HMG from NS1? That one was overpowered. Even more so than the shotgun.

I and my buddy could usually (meaning far more likely than not) kill a hive and multiple defending aliens with these solo, as long as we also had a JP and a welder, and we mostly played on servers with 12+ players.

The LMG is already incredibly good if you know how to aim, if anything I'd like to see something give marines more survivability, like armor regen kits...these would be very useful without breaking the game's balance.

In fact, I would love to see marines being more self sustainable.

Regenerating health, regenerating armor, maybe even a a replacement LMG that has lasers magazines that recharge themselves. All this would help marines self sustain themselves instead of stressing commander res, all while not breaking delicate combat balance.

I'm just gonna straight up suggest:

Nano-Machine Injector - 3 res - Gives 5 health every 3 seconds permanently

Laser LMG - 5 res - Same stats, can't get armory ammo/pick up ammo, but has self charging mags

Reshaping Armor - 3 res - Get 2 armor every 3 seconds

This gives marines something to spend PRES on something useful while not damaging combat balance too harshly, its especially handy with newer comms who arent good at dropping packs.

Such a thing already exists: It's called a welder. ;-)
You never want to run alone anyway. so it is actually much better than your Reshaping Armor.

And just like the medkit and ammo packs, it requires teamwork - between you, your teammates and the commander.
This is what this game is all about.

This would be horrible for attacking structures - Which just so happens to be the goal of this game.

If you want to be an awesome lone wolf, this simply isn't the game for you.

Yeah, I was about to say why the hell you'd even want some reshaping armor nonsense when welders exist for the same price and are better in every single way compared to that silly upgrade. Use a welder, be useful with it, and get armor back for free. Or use the slightest modium of communication during some downtime between combat situations, and share a welder with your teammates by dropping it on the floor so they can give you welder love.

Marine weapons that are needed if this game wants to survive:

- medium cost High Powered Sniper Rifle, several zoom levels and 1 shot kill against Skulks and Lerks, possibly Fades as well with Carapace and some Bio Mass (but not against Fade with Carapace and maximum Bio Mass or Onos, or this weapon might be in danger being considered overpowered by a small minority of the player base)
- Laser gun like the OP suggested. Would be nice if it had some flashy effect. Like being able to say cutting limbs off and stuff.
- Rocket Launcher for AOE damage like the Grenade Launcher but this Launcher would have homing missiles, possible alternative weapon for Exo Suits?
- Minelayer, like the mines you can put on the ground but this weapon you purchase once and can refill at the armory / with ammo packs to balance it out make it cost a couple more res than mines (but not too much or nobody will use it!)
- Plasma Gun, charge the gun up to fire big balls of plasma that melt everything in their path. Huge damage and projectiles continue on after hitting something, to balance it out like I said make the weapon required to charge up for half a second or so before you can fire it
- Remotely triggered C4 for all the Ninja players, show 'em some love! :)
- Drone NPC units that the Commander controls to give him some nice toys as well
- Endgame Superweapon for the Commander like in all good RTS games, so he has something to spend all that res on in the endgame. For example being able to teleport "clouds" of nanobots that disintegrate buildings and eat the Aliens from the inside out to locations of the Commander's choosing like the Alien Commanders infestation stuff
- Upgrade for the MACs to overload their powercore -> make them NPC suicide bombers essentially

That's the bare minimum needed to balance out the game and make it fun for the Marine side.
Will make a list of possible new alien lifeforms/attacks and abilities once NS2 hires me as freelance idea man.

Don't forget the ability for aliens to merge into one big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the ability to do TONS of damage. He's also able to eat Exos and marines in one bite, healing him to full health. In return marines get the armageddon airstrike, ending the game with all aliens dead. 5 res cost to make it balanced, 30 seconds until it fires. Fired by the cc.
Oh, and because the aliens aren't busy enough and have too much res, let's give them the ability to create bot aliens by inserting lavaes into the marines, ranged attack, skulks have it. They eat the marine from the inside out, and when a marine dies while carrying a larvae he is taken out of the game.

Seriously UWE, hire me already!
