NS2 is not a "realism" based game. It never was intended to be. If you want realism go play ArmA or DCS World (even though ArmA is not realistic).

Arma is realistic in terms of bullet mechanics and damage. The only thing that makes that game unplayable is the stupid mouse smoothing bullcap which makes it impossible to do any form of close quarter fighting.

I was talking about the entire game, not just bullet mechanics and damage. Also vehicles don't have locational damage or systems modeling. So the game is not very realistic. It is just a step removed from the battlefield games really.

I'd likely trade a realistic factor for a tactic factor in this game.
So, you say you hate that as aliens "everything is highlighted". I assume you're quite new to the game, because a few months ago, there was a Green/Orange alien vision and no highlitghs. Everyone played with alien vision on ;) which was even worse than highlighted stuff. See, people don't care about this game being realistic (because it's not). They want the best tactic tools :)

with old vision I used all the time, I didn't think it was un realistic, the natural eye was. :)

You can modify the alien vision to your hearts content, or download a custom one from the workshop. The file has basically been whitelisted so that by default all servers allow custom alien vision
