30 in corridor, only me
If it's already lagging and slow, then you are too late to fix it and probably wont be able to play graphical games like this on your laptop again.
I would look at getting a real Desktop and a Dedicated Graphics Card.
If you would like to continue playing smaller games (low graphical quality games like Half-Life and Minecraft are fine) then I would lower your playtime, play in a cool environment, and put your laptop on a laptop stand that gives circulation to the bottom of your laptop.
I experienced the same thing 2 years ago, except my Laptop absolutely blew ♥♥♥♥.
When it finally gave it's last breath I went to best buy, bought a cheap but medium-grade stock PC and a Graphics card, and have been playing it ever since.
Of course as a result of buying a Stock PC, I have a Motherboard that can only accept FM1 CPU's, so right now my CPU sucks and my Graphics card is good. My CPU is therefore bottlenecking it.
Wait, what was I talking about again?
*off topic*
Totally confirmed it. Because yesterday my game run total crap, and today with no patch, nothing changed and everything runs smooth, so it must be the game. *rolleyes*
Seriously?
Could have been as well a cooling issue with your laptop, maybe one of its coolers did not run well for some time. but lost some of the dirt in it now. Or it was an os issue, or some driver issue, or some mod, or … totally confirmed on everything ;-)
BTW your brand new $3500 laptop is most likely a fantastic $2000 laptop with an alienware case. For $3500 you can have a saeger with dual 780m gpus already.
In other words, that alienware is less powerful as a 5 year old high-end desktop system ;-)
That 765m is slower than most $100 desktop gpus these days.
But its nice to see that your game runs perfect again.
Just another hater! bahahahaha. look man im not looking to start any ♥♥♥♥ like you have obviously. You think i dont know that Desktop's are a lot better? of course i do, because you can obviously put more in them. Also i am saying that this new laptop of mine has had no problems with games other than having Win 8 OS which sometimes Isnt compatible of course.
There are always Variables in everything!!! So you dont think that maybe the game itself and its server base may have had an issue with it for a short time??? Possibly! Could my Laptop have a slight temparary issue with is software or fan? sure!!! But when i can play a top of the line game like Battlefield 4 with lo lag directly after i have this problem, then re-lauch NS2 and still have a problem.
That my friend. sounds like a game problem to me! And before you think your better than people like me with this sort of thing, you got problems bro!! That being said, I am still going to be an adult about this sort of thing because i AM one, and ask you what you may think the problem still could be and would you have any advice!!
Seeing how our lord blessed you with such intent on Knowledge and problems. ;)
Anyway, NS2 is generally not very well optimised and suffers from really bad FPS dropout. I used to experience it before I built my own PC and now it runs smoothly. Perhaps try and run the game on different settings, especially try OpenGL vs Direct X.
Good luck, suks when you can't play NS2 :/
