Eyes in mouth?
Most annoying thing in this game seems to be that monsters have eyes in their mouth.

why not ?

Unnatural. And you close your mouth and you can't see.

that's the point, you're an alien

The point is, even aliens evolve. Evolving means, that you have eyes where you can see best. Which is not your throat.

How else would you make first person melee combat using teeth feel visceral and satisfying?

It sure isn't having the pointy bits where you can't even see them.

You can see claws and such striking. Maybe see down the face like dog sees. But hey, I take realistic any time over more like a glitch.

Oh, it's the realism > all argument.

Nothing more to say. Perhaps you should actually try playing the game.

Maybe... But wait, I see some realism over there ->

Yes, nothing is more important than realism in a game where space marines fight aggressive bacterial alien lifeforms

Well, but it could at least try to be realistic. Now it is more like nonsense. Why don't the marines look through their teeth as well? I mean, they might use biting in close quarter combat!

Pulse grenades, Phase gates, Medpacks, ammo and structures coming from nowhere (a com dropping it).
You are right, everything else in the game is very realistic.

Arguing that its not realistic is kinda dumb. I rarely hold objects in my hands at eye height, for instance.

Arguing that its hard to see might have slightly more merit, but think it provides a more interesting and claustrophobic feel and limits vision very little.

Yeah, but I am sure you get what I mean. And for clarity I mean that games should have things that at least look like realistic. Of course it varies by game and by game looknfeel. I mean, cartoony games are cartoony, but things still fit in the surroundings. What I am looking for in a sci-fi game is sci-fi. Looking through your teeth is just a game mechanic, not intentional sci-fi as such (at least not normally), which makes it look out of place. Which feels awkward. You might be ok with it, but I am not.

I think it's rather innovative. I always really get into role playing skulks and onos.
Hobocop Jun 28 @ 2:50pm
It's one of those weird paradoxes that makes the experience of being a Skulk or a Lerk more believable despite the fact that having visual sensory organs as they are in the game doesn't make any sense.

Having a snout at the bottom of the screen isn't nearly as visually interesting as having TEETH surrounding your viewpoint, and it also makes it easier to create animations that underscore the amount of force you're tearing into marines with using those jaws, making the experience of engaging in combat and biting people feel amazing.

It's a visual design decision that's persisted since the original mod back in early 2000, and it's something that you really can't understand without experiencing it for yourself.
