After Updating - Stuck on this screen

after update i pull up NS2 and it says:

"NS2 has been updated. we need to perform a one-time optimization....etc..."

Choice: Optimize or Skip

I cannot choose either. It acts as if the whole game locks up. Ending task, restarting and even reinstalling has not helped. I never deleted the old files when reinstalling, however.

Any suggestions? I'm running XP

Note Game runs best on 64-bit OS,
Win XP has Memory issue

Unsubscribe from workshop items,
uninstall game,
delete User/Username/AppData/Roaming/natural Selection 2 Folder
re-install game.
