I wish this game was more popular.
It deserves to be.

It runs fine on my machine, its just the loading into the map takes forever. Havent played in a while so maybe they fixed it in a patch or something though or i need to think about investing into a ssd.

I'm willing to bet what put a large amount of people off is the absurd CPU requirements. Prior to LUAJIT the game ran like dogshit on everything except high-end Intel CPUs. A game should not have a $200 CPU requirement to play it adequately. You don't launch games with those kinds of requirements, yet that's exactly what Unknownworlds did, and it's in my opinion one of the worst decisions they made. For months on end people just wrote the game off entirely because they could not play it, and most games get most of their sales when they launch. With LUAJIT the game runs a lot better, but it still has by far the highest CPU requirements of any game out there.

I have an FX-8120, and it doesn't even guarantee an FPS rate of 45 for a 20 player server. 24 player servers it will drop down to 30 in late game fights. While this is really poor, it's technically playable. Prior to LUAJIT the game ran about 30-40% slower. That's the game the devs thought was acceptable to launch.

The game is also quite newbie unfriendly, but it's like that by design because it tries to be a game with a lot of depth. The high CPU requirements have no redeeming benefits, and that's one area where the game's population was needlessly handicapped.

Sadly, you need a higher end i5 with a midrange video card and SSD to get good performance.

That's about $500 right there on just three parts.

i run fine with latitude 3540 full hd on high settings.

You wouldn't play Battlefield 4 or Crysis 3 on a mid-range PC and then whine about the performance, because you know it's going to run poorly. The quality of the textures, lighting effects, animations and everything else in this game is unbelievable.

This game is slowly dying ... Too bad , this is my most played game on steam... The reason I don't play anymore is that there are no more good servers, and very little communication and team play left.

Maybe they can make it free-to-play and put in hats, boxes and other stuff. But that will completly ruin the game imo.

So since my favorite servers are gone and the official servers are mostly empty and running the same map, I'll take a break from this game.

I like it. Runs well. And It is slowly *fading* away which upsets me.

The game died prematurely because it was incomplete and the requirements for said game were too high because it was unoptimised. It ran really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for a lot of people for a long time.

The highest peak number it ever got to was about 7,000+ players not long after launch, but subsequent sales and F2P weekends haven't really boosted numbers. Nobody is really interested.

It's a shame because NS2 is different from everything else, just like NS1 was. Unfortunately it was too little too late and I doubt it will ever recover.

An Luck not Skill, the problem was optimisation. Shadowing was far too heavy on my computer and mine isn't really a low end PC nor a beast. Load times on that game were also ridiculous. I have a Core i5-2500K @4GHz an a 7870 OC'd to 1.1GHz / 1.25Ghz. After improvements were made I can easily max it these days, but by that time so many people had left the numbers just started to decay.

Took them 10 years to do this and they probably aided its own decline by rushing the last few months and not ensuring it ran better on lower spec computers.
