NS2 is only worth it if u are patient.

Stacked/unfair teams is what u get mostly.Real good matches are really rare(then they can last up to over an hour.
It also depends on the server..on one server(thirsty onos #2) u get literally *almost* always real unfair matches which are basically over after 3-4 mins.

Mechanics etc are nice ofc.
Noob commanders are a pain too but wont happen too often.

After some time, when u arent overwhelmed/fascinated by the mechanics etc and u "grown into ns2", u will guaranteed feel real frustrated real often.

For me speaking..i still play it after many hours..but only cause there is no real alternative in this genre and im patient aka i can stand 2-3+ ♥♥♥♥ty matches in a row.

"....or an Exo with Dual-Fists" ...lmao

Well worth it.
My TF2 alternative.

I never play TF2 anymore, even for casual I prefer to play NS2 for my team fps game.

The key problem with sale weeks is that new players see Marines have guns and all go marine basically forcing veteran players to go Alien....who then promptly stomp them into oblivion due to the huge skill difference.

The related problem is that it takes a while to learn how to play aliens well and many players who come from FPS games never really learned to work in a team as very few FPS actually require it. Thus a lone alien is going to get demolished over and over again.

There are a whole host of good rookie guides that if read before playing would really help their survivial.

Well the whole problem with steam/whatever cheap sales is that alot of people in general who have no chance being good in ns2 end up buying and playing the game, so the more complex, team based games really suffer from the sales.

A lot of these people have no expereince in fps games whatsoever, they are like shooting at moving targets with their mouse the first time ever.

So it would be so important in ns2 to have servers for rookies only and non rookies, like what I mean in the basic level of having played 10-20 hours.

Like when you play against marines that have just bought a game and have never seen an fps game you can jump directly on 5 of em in a long corridor and kill all of em without them even firing a shot:P.

Like being bad in ns2 is no shame, i'm not good myself, but when you let people who are bad at anything that takes little bit of aiming and thinking giving access to all servers who have people who have practiced the game for 500+ hours and ave several years of fps experience it's just plain wrong. It ruins the game for everyone.

It's not that everyone is a bad player at start, some might be really experienced in similar games, but just for the sake of the people who are totally hopeless, you just need to separate them from the experienced players.
