Stuck on initial LOAD screen : (
Hey. Just recently got NS2, never played it before. I installed it and clicked "PLAY," the game will launch and the start up load screen (the one with the dude aiming at the huge alien and a blue "loading" apears at the bottom right) will appear (if I am lucky, sometimes it'll just be a black screen) and stay there! I have tried waiting but nothing happens. I don't know how to fix this, any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I am running Ubuntu 12.04

I'm hoping someone with Linux knowledge can help you on this one

Thanks, I hope so too...

EDIT:
If I run ns2_linux32 from terminal, i get the following:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 4920
Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198000265606 [API loaded no]

I get nothing after that and I must either restart my computer or try to force a quit. Any ideas anyone?

A quick work around would be using a virtual machine(not java virtual machine), with a copy of windows, and use the virtual machine to run the game.

Ya, I don't want to do that, I don't like having to go through a VM to play games. I want to use my OS. Thanks for the suggestion : )

I think it might be due to running a 32-bit version of Ubuntu, NS2 likes 64-bit OSes

Good point. I was wondering something along the same lines. I am running 64bit linux! I was wondering if running the 32bit version of the game would cause problems. I don't see a 64 bit version?

You could try a dual boot, Installing; Ubuntu 13.10, Zorin 8, or SteamOS

I rather not do something so drastic for a bug. All good suggestions but I would like to pinpoint the problem and fix it. Thanks again : )

The current build 266 is quiet bugy with linux. In a few days build 267 will be released which includes some bug fixes for specially the linux build so that might fix your issue.

That is great news. I'll hope for the best. Thanks for the info.
