Seemed Like a Good Idea *Unsubscribed*
Getting this game seemed like a brilliant idea, it looks beautiful, fun and intuitive. When I got it during the steam sale, I figured that it ought to be an interesting experience.

As it turns out, I've come to the party too late. Currently there are only 474 players playing, and when I go the server browser, I've 3 servers that are under acceptable ping- all of which are packed and queued up with other player awaiting for the servers to free up some space. This is the 4th time out of the 7-8 times I've gone to play the game and had this happen.

Honestly, I don't know why Steam puts these games out on their "featured listings" with sales when the community is practically gone. Not impressed. I wish there was some way of indicating that somewhere on the page before buying. Ach, oh well.
Hopefully I'm jumping the gun here and that this has just been a series of slow days, but from my location in Ontario, Canada there is minimal chance to enjoy this game as it should be, and especially for the $30 value I put into it (traded Pay Day 2 for it since I was out of cash by the time I saw it in the listings) Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Not me. I never had any problem finding servers with players (I live in central EU), but it depends on how do you define acceptable ping. I prefer servers with <100ms, but if I can't find any fitting other requirements (map, amount of players etc.) then I can join server that has ping up to 250ms.

Just join a server with higher ping and check your server browser once in a while to see if there are some free slots on servers with lower ping. Also you will find different amount of players online at different times of day.

I'm in Toronto, and there are 4-5 servers with <100 ms ping. I usually play on the IBIS servers, and I have a reserved slot on one ($2/month). I rarely have an issue of getting into a good server.

Anything over 1.75 second (175 milisecond) delay is practically unacceptable for me in a game that has a largely competative (and therefore skilled) community. I try to aim for anything under 100, but ideally I'll find one sitting at 125 if I'm lucky, and I don't plan on playing this game enough to pay a monthly fee regardless of price.

So should I consider this game pooched and move along or should I try jumping into games during a restricted period of time? If so, what time do you guys usually see the most population during the day?

Guys, most of the core servers are in the US and require that you live NEAR them.

The servers you guys can see are somewhat close/ in your preffered ping range, but you aren't close enough to see them.

I live in Central USA and can see literally ALL of the US servers.

There's 1000 milliseconds in a second. Just wanted to let you know. Have a nice day.

Ah, thank you for that correction Luke. Still a noticable effect however.

I live on the us west coast and pretty much never more than 3 active servers with less than 100 ping. This game is dead.

It does seem to be a hit or miss, doesn't it? Seems to be that this game is lively only based on where you live and your available time to play. Which would be fine with me if it wasn't over $20.

I dunno if you've tried waiting it out yet to try different times yet Cadarn, but it might be worth giving a shot. It's what I'm going to attempt to do. If that doesn't work, I suppose I'll chalk it up to experience by writing up a review, remembering to check in depth with the community, remember not gauge Steam's prices as a sign of an active and working product, and to nominate it as my number 1 contender for buyer's remorse of the year award, ahah!

I've been playing for quite some time. At its peak there were like 30 active servers on the west coast. I absolutely cannot believe it is selling for $24.99 right now. I paid $39.99 long before it was released. It is not worth more than $4.99 at this point.

Ahh, well yeah that's definitely unfortunate and a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ off.

To be honest, I techically paid 29.99 for it, considering I traded Pay Day 2 for it by being under the impression it was active after talking to a number of it's hardcore users, but to be equally fair, that first one's really on me.

yeah, sorry I had no idea it was selling for so much. It was I think 14.99 for quite a while. I was able to join a number of games tonight, but every round was so unbalanced it hardly seems worth playing any more. Used to be one of the most fun games I've ever played. Hope you can join a decent match at some point.

Lol, gah!

Similar thing with Killing Floor, traded Terriaria (9.99 value) for it thinking that I got myself a nice deal- then KF went on sale for 75% off and is sitting @ 5 dollars. Seems I can never win these days.. bahah! Ah well, I guess you live you learn.

Yeah, I felt the same thing was happening to me when I did get in-game, but I wasn't too sure since I'mma n00b. Thanks though! I'mma go catch some rest, take care.

Yeah, you two just sit in here and keep bashing the game because no one decides Canada has a large enough playerbase to make a good server for it.

Meanwhile i'll enjoy my 10+ Active servers.

You can always unsubscribe to the thread if you don't like what you're reading. Canadians have no problems connecting to most American servers at least where I'm at, so that just sounds like you're ignorant and think that Canada is off on some island or something.

Meanwhile, you enjoy those plus 10 servers and consider yourself lucky, for now.

Hey NobleNememis, just wanted to thank you for the warning. I just started to play this game after I tried Natural Selection 2 awhile ago. I didn't like it. Everything needs a second chance so. Hopefully I do find a nice server that has acceptable ping :).

I hope you also find your local spot on a good under 125 ms server :).
