I think it's your CPU.

General Rule for AMD CPUs is cut the number of cores in Half and cut the Frequency to about 66% to 75% of what is listed,
So your CPU is equaliant to a Dual Core 2.4 to 3.0 GHz Intel CPU, and that runs the game poorly, I would know I've run the game on a Intel Core-2-Duo 3.0 GHz

damn, i just wish there was a way to speed up the loading time, i have no trouble running the game, its just by the time i get in, the game has been going on for a long time!

Another you can do to speed up load times in to not use any Mods/Workshop items

yeah, i just play on regular servers, ive tried with and without mods ect... but ill just play with bots for now i guess

Most games are already started by the time you join them, even with a fast load time.
I've rarely entered a server when a game just finished.

The load times were enough to make me not even bother trying to play this game.

Maybe your HDDs are completely fragmented (or rather your NS2 data is fragmented)?
Try defragmenting your disks and you'll most likely load a bit faster.

I'm running my ns2 on:
amd athlon II X3 3.2GHz (4 cores)
radeon 7750
12GB RAM
120GB SSD
win7 x64

Loading takes less than 30 seconds because I moved my ns2 folder from hdd to ssd.
To do that you need to do the following (it works on windows 7, not sure about windows 8):

Let's say your ssd drive is C: and you want to move ns2 to folder Games on C:
Shutdown ns2 and steam.
Open windows explorer and go to your <PATH>\Steam\steamapps\common\
In right pane find "Natural Selection 2" folder, then move it to C:\Games\
Hold shift and right click on empty space in right pane, then from menu that appears select "Open command window here"
Inside the black window that appears you should see: <PATH>\Steam\steamapps\common>
Type in that window:
mklink /D "Natural Selection 2" "C:\Games\Natural Selection 2"
press enter, start up steam and ns2 and see if that helped.

.....before NS2 i was aware of OCing the cpus, did happily OC amd/intel cpus and the last 3 cpus always got OCed for at least 1 ghz and survived, but this cpu monster NS2 gave me even another notch of understanding OC, now even a lil higher OC with granted stability on the cpu&board i am just using. Thx again NS2 for your existence.....

try OCing your FX-4300 even further (stock 3,8Ghz) then your 4Ghz right now, maybe u ll reach 4,5-4,6 Ghz and with luck & goood cpu cooling even 4,8-5Ghz.

if you are not so familier with OCing plz take & read at least 3 up to 5 different OC sides about OCing your FX-4300 and what to take care about + maybe something about your motherboard too. Always beware! of the max Temperature & at some point do >NOT< exceed a certain voltage (both counts for all components needed for OC, cpu & motherboard-chipsets).

If you plan to OverClock the CPU, I would recommend a new CPU Cooler.

Hey guys,

We're hoping that the new update might help load times a bit, and if it doesnt you should have much less hitching ans smoother framerates.

If you have an SSD, it really helps to move NS2 onto that. If not, you can also set up a RAM Disk if you have enough RAM. Otherwise, beleive it or not, defragging using steam's tools also helps.

Cheers!
