Hesitant at first to play what looked like a clunky fps in the 1600s, especially since I knew so little about the Euro Northern wars of that time. I was so wrong. It's a delightfully fun sandbox game. Yes, it still has some bugs and the graphics hurt the eyes at times but the game play and depth is great. With only 38.7 hours into the game, I've formed a fairly competant mercenary band. Had a private rivalry with a Russian warlord that lead to me taking his fortress away after a month long siege. I started a Swedish civil war by backing a disposed queen. Succeeding in seeing her return to the throne. Strengthened the bonds of that broken nation by taking more lands from the Tzar of Russia to give to Swed nobility. Innocently started a war with the Tzar, inadvertently saving the Crimean and Polish realms from collapsing under Russian advances. Finally, got around to mastering trade routes and tending to the needs of my subjects. Took a few hours to get the handle of charging on horse back and timing sword swings to kill my foes as I rode past, but I love this game now. Oh so very very much. Commanding my intrepid band of mercs to overrun castles and forts, I don't think I'll grow tired of this game any time soon. Looking forward to a Steam sale to try out the viking and napoleonic eras of this game!
