Assuming the lord relations mechanic is mostly the same to Native, there are a number of options.
1. Break him out. I'm certain he's tried of sleeping on a stone flood.
2. Aid him in combat. Sometimes neglible, but some forgiveness is awarded
3. High honour (variable, and onlyreally high numbers count for much.)
4. Gifts. Lord's ladies that you have high relations with will ask you to pay a sum to increase the lord's opinion of you.
5. WAIT. Lords will over time forget their grievences. (But weather you will as well depends ;) )
This sound about right? there are more, but I've bandit problems in my own game, so ... yeah. **** the khergits. Luck mate
If he attacks you during a jailbreak attempt though that is a bug. Save before any jailbreak and if the prisoner attacks you will know you got the bug. To fix it just exit Warband to the desktop and reload. This should clear this memory related issue.
If he is just standing around though it might not be bugged - you just need to find all the guards and take them down. Occasionally one will spawn in an odd place such as outside the wall.
