What I don't like is its implementation in Uplay. Nothing against Uplay, it may be a bit chafing at times to have another launcher to log in to, especially if you had to change your password for their service at some point (and you didn't enter it for a while, because you always have it saved), or you haven't played their games in a while and it has to run an update, but in most cases, I don't have a problem with it.
In case of Heroes of... oh, excuse me... Might and Magic: Heroes 6, however, it is really annoying me. I mean, I want to play it online. I want to get all the features (Conflux orbs can be a great help, Dynasty Weapons are awesome, and cloud saves are just practical). It's part of the product I purchased, after all. Now, I can live with the troubles on startup (getting stuck on splash screen, having to kill the process), and I can live with the limited save game slots (even though it seems... anachronistic)...
But... I have 2 save game slots in use, plus the auto save slots (10, I believe). Syncing fails about once for every save game I have, before finally completing, that's some 12 times. Maybe it fails more often. Which means I have to babysit the progress bar to click "Try Again" every time. And that is why I rarely play it. Because it's just annoying and frustrating. If I don't have at least a few hours to play it, I don't even consider it, because the hassle of getting the save games synced afterwards (calculate some 15 minutes) is too much for playing it some 40-90 minutes. And these days, I rarely have as much time to play continuously, as I need for MM:H6
(Can't comment on the difficulty level, yet, so far I didn't run into any huge problems. Still, I'm always cautious when I read "if the game is played right". Sometimes, "playing it right" means that you have to do some very specific things, which in many games renders "character development" into an elaborate, long-term puzzle game which doesn't have options, but only the one right path, and a lot of useless junk surrounding it.)
Tbh - I couldn't play the game for all of this year, until June when they fixed the Nvidia townscreen bug.
Since I've almost completed 4 campaigns though and am loving it.
I can't wait until Might and Magic X: Legacy comes out (I have the early access but it is only act 1 and buggy) next year - it continues the story from HOMM6. A story which I grew to like. I even enjoyed the voiceacting.
The skilltrees were a bit too simplistic though, but got the job done in the end. All in all one of my favourite HOMM games though nothing beats HOMM2. Ahhh nostalgia.
I guess you`re right - we seem to be some of the lucky few who the game works for - What a shame! With all the tech the developers have access to , it shouldn`t be that hard to fix. I think. I`m not very technical.
I`m on the sixth` mission - chose Sanctuary for that, and I have lots of fun - And I look forward to start playing the expansions :)
I play the HoMM games over and over - they`ll never become old for me :)
I am so sorry for you !!!
Thanks , nice to hear from you :)
I am sorry to hear about your troubles with the game, though.
I had some troubles when it first came out, but like I said ; almost none since.
I would have liked more save options, too - but luckily I have never lost any of them.
And the loading times could have been shorter, but it seldom takes me more than a minute.
Upstart and ending the game certainly takes too long!
Sorry if I used the term "game played right" , - I did not at all mean it that way . I simply meant that too many people seems to want to play a game without learning the basics, without reading the manuals - And what is wrong with switching to "Easy" if it still is too difficult?
I love all the HoMM series, actually I still play I and II once in a while :) Heroes III and IV ( loved the depth of the stories in IV) are my favs - and V is great, too. This game, VI , took me some time to get into, and it took me some time to like - but now it is right up there on my fav list.
I`m almost starting to regret this thread - It is dawning to me that the main reasons for complains are not that people don`t like this game - They just cannot play it.
Tragic indeed !
I really hope they can fix it ! I`d like to have more people to discuss what`s great about the game, different ways of playing , fav stuff, etc.
I think you`re right about the dev`s being to occupied with their new game.
Like I said; I am not very technical, - but really; I think they should be able to fix Heroes VI !
I do not believe it is too late . The Heroes series has lots of faithful friends.
