Ctrl-Alt-Del
Open Task Manager
Click the 2nd tab (Processes)
Find Might and Magic 6, click it
Click "end process"

...and try starting the game again. (Worked for me, hope it works for you.)

Same here...

So I reinstalled this game and it started once, I changed my graphic settings and had to restart it. Now it again continues to say "Game Already Started." I've restarted Steam, Uplay, made sure the program wasn't running when I attempted to start it over and over. Why the hell do I have to use Uplay? What piece of ♥♥♥♥.

I followed everything in this discussion http://steamcommunity.com/app/48220/discussions/0/846958724772577376/ and it didn't change a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing.

I've just bought this game on Steam plus the Shades of Darkness expansion and although I've been able to play it once with no issues for 45 minutes (the tutorial mission), I now get the same Game Already Started error that others are reporting here. I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and all 19 of my other Ubisoft Uplay games work perfectly. I've exited and restarted Steam, and even revalidated the game cache but I still get this ridiculous error message.

The way the game starts from Steam is odd though as I see a Might & Magic VI Heroes loading window pop up in the middle of the desktop THEN Uplay launches and signs in after synchronizing my saves with the cloud. The Game Already Started error window appears then when I click on OK to close it I get the usual Thank You For Playing window you see after exiting a game!!! Except I haven't been playing the game... I am trying to play it!!!!!!

The strange thing is that there is a process running called Might & Magic VI Shades of Darkness which using around 60 MB of memory and the loading window remains stuck in the middle of my desktop until I manually exit that process. The game never loads, no matter how long I wait. This issue also occurs when I launch Might & Magic VI directly from Uplay as well which suggests it is not an issue caused by Steam. Even before I bought the Shades of Darkness expansion though, my Uplay Games library displayed only a Might & Magic VI Shades of Darkness icon and not one for Might & Magic VI Heroes (which is what the loading window shows).

I find it absolutely ridiculous that these kind of issues occur and if I had to hazard a guess at its cause then I'd say it's the DRM or the shoddy Uplay launcher, which has the honour of actually being far worst than EA's Origin in my opinion; quite an achievement really given how bad that software is.

it's great you pointed out this issue is directly linked to the uplay client, did you try reinstalling it ?
if it was me I would try remove uplay from add/remove programs and let steam reinstall it. if the prb is still there I would again remove it and reinstall from the uplay.com website and see if it gets better.

the game randomly started today when i tried it. when it is working, the splash screen pops up then goes away, and then the uplay client starts and the game runs. if the initial splash screen doesn't go away i get the game already started error, which is what is happening right now again.

I have 20 Ubisoft games that use Uplay and only this game has an issue at startup but it isn't like it doesn't run at all, it's that it seems to start before Uplay is ready causing it to get confused!!!

I really do want to uninstall/reinstall Uplay and risk losing the other 19 games and their save games as they all work perfectly fine. The majority of them are non-Steam retail disc games but Far Cry 3: Blood Dragons and From Dust seem to run fine from Steam. Nor do I want to uninstall Steam either when I have a library of 342 titles installed and all except one are working. The issue is evidentally with the game and/or Uplay not Steam anyway. As far as I can tell.

Yes, that's pretty much the same error I'm having. I've played the game for around an hour and it works flawlessly so I know it DOES run but it seems very random as to whether it will actually load or not. It's somewhat pathetic that issues like this get in the way of us enjoying our games.

Someone on another forum suggested that it may be a conflict between a background task and the game's DRM. I am running EVGA Precision X's on-screen display so disable it and see if that allows the game to start properly.

By the way, why does Uplay repeatedly prompt me to change my password at startup? I know they were hacked last week (again!!!) but I have already changed my password twice and even changed the email associated with my Uplay acount. Do I really have to keep changing the password. This message is uber-annoying because it prevents Uplay from otherwise signing in automatically like it used to.

if i start the game and then end the process before uplay tries to start the game, it works
Knives 2013 年 7 月 18 日 下午 1:34
if that's the case then a simple workaround is to launch the game from uplay and not from steam.
you can launch uplay manually from there (make a shortcut on the desktop) :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe
remove x86 from program files folder name if you are not running a 64bits OS.

if i launch from uplay it does the exact same thing. if i launch from steam it at least gives me time to end the process before it tries to start it again(since i made uplay start as administrator and it asks me if it's ok to run.)
Knives 2013 年 7 月 18 日 下午 4:45
too bad, very strange though.
btw why the need to run uplay as admin ?

i don't think i do, i just did recently following an error fix thread to try to alleviate my "game already started" issue.
