Honestly the game itself is alright, but the fact that I can't even play it is pissing me off
There are also tons of other issues with the game itself (some patched, others not. A bit hard to tell what is still a thing, but a past issue still leaves marks on the community), ranging from broken mechanics (spells not doing what they should, some dynasty weapons doing nothing, I think using a certain spell permanently reduced your stats etc.) to unfair AI (having an infinitely replenishable army was/is a thing).
And of course there's Uplay, which, while not an issue for some (me included), can be a complete mess for others.
It removes the entire strategic aspect of the game centered around capturing the enemy's resources.
It makes it incredibly predictable and stupidly easy on the hardest difficulty setting for all the campaign missions.
Because they use tactics based on the assumption that the AI is playing by the same rules as you. They play against the AI how they played earlier version of Heroes.
Once you realize that denying resources to the AI, or bothering to capture his mines, or taking on tough neutral fights to get the reward behind it before the AI can -- are all completely and utterly worthless tactics the campaign missions become pathetically easy.
Shortly after this game was released many people posted on the forums about how the first Inferno mission on hard was impossible.
That motivated me to make my first youtube video and upload a lets player of that mission. I played it on hard. I picked the default might hero. I used no dynasty weapon. I used no dynasty perks.
And it was a cakewalk.
Years later people posted, "But it's impossible now after patch x.x.x. !1!1!!" So I patched up and played it again and it was just as easy.
It's all about understand the rules the AI is playing by and how they differ from what the player faces.
When the game was released I was really looking forward to making maps with the editor. I went through all the campaign missions in the editor and learned a great deal about how to use the editor. And I was flabergasted by how the AI was scripted to play.
only thing that bugged me is that in certain missions you had as much time as you wanted and the enemies army wasnt growing so basically you could skip 500 turns and then recruit everybody but it was only a couple anyways. id say overall i enjoyed most of the campaigns but maybe im not the norm in that regard x
There are things in the game that make it worth playing, probably best to start with the campaigns.
1. Resources and Economy were dumbed down.
2. The gameplay was changed alot.
3. Uplay is a pile of crap.
2:Not really
3:Yeah.
