Same here. I didn't know it from EA or was apart of Need For Speed, otherwise I wouldn't have bought this garbage.
Try using a cracked launcher from The Pirate Bay. You won't have access to the DLC, but you'll at least be able to play what you bought.

WTF? I can't get it to work either. Opening it from the library starts the activation program which is always succesful.

Same problem here. I regret buying this game, last time I do an impulse buy on steam without researching first. I opened a support ticket with steam a few days back and they still haven't got back to me. Must be behind because so many people bought this half ♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Just got home from a business trip and tried to play. I am getting the same thing. I do not have Origin installed on my PC at all so I am wondering is that the reason? That would suck because this game was a waste of money.

Try deleting the SHIFT2U.exe and activation.exe in the instal directory, then run Steams 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache.' It'll re-download and install the missing and corrupt files.
It'll probably not work at all, but it did fix the problem for me.

"Find the shift2u.exe, in my case in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\need for speed shift 2

Right click, select Run with Graphics Processor and click on High Performance nVidia Processor. Off it went, no problems.

As I say, this was set as default for me so this shouldn't make a difference, but hey ho; it's working."

I did what this guy said and now it works. A real pain but atleast I can play now.

Well that's good. Enjoy the delayed steering for game wheel users and poor game pad joystick dead zones (even though it has an adjustment option that hardly works), because I didn't. The controls have proven to be abhorrent no matter the tuning.

Just tried to open from the program folder and not through Steam or the desktop shortcut, and received an error message stating that a .dll file was missing. It was something like "physc____.dll, stupid me forget to write down the file name. Unistalled using windows, and am now redownloading through steam. Will post update.
